What has happened to them? and can I get them back?

I have not been using the Skydrive app, so there are no local copies.  There is nothing in Recent docs at all, and nothing is found using Skydrive search and the recycle bin is empty.

This is a fairly large number of files, in different folders - all of which have vanished.
