Hi Bob,

Your reply gave helpful insight. I have a similar issue, but rather than using outlook I'm looking to use Microsoft 365 file share to import the list, from excel, to file share so that i can create a group to send out the same email too.

I am also using a Mac desktop, although i am unsure of the version it is (quite old as it still has a disc drive at the side)

Also i am looking to merge my contacts from my outlook to the file share space as well, but i am working with an older version of outlook and the latest version of file share, do you recommend that i update my outlook or is it necessary?

Any help you can give i'll really appreciate.

Kind regards,

Caoimhe

The Apple Store installed Office for Mac 2011 from my MacBook Pro to my new iMac.  Everything seems to be working except "Contacts Search".  Nothing comes up when I type in a search.  The Search function still works on the same version on my old MacBook Pro.

The problem being that Outlook on my MBA/El Capitan keeps giving me the "invalid username/password" error and won't let me even compose, let alone send and receive - though the username/passwords/configurations are all correct, quadruple-checked (more than that actually), and verified with my ISP (TWC), and are actually the same accounts that are functioning flawlessly on my iMac/Snow Leopard with the same Office.

So would an uninstall-reinstall fix that? If so, should it be the simple one, dragging the Office folder to the trash? Or the full uninstall?

Thanks all.

This is a follow-up to a question I asked recently that got too long and unwieldy. Here's what happened:

1. I created a new email account in TWC webmail as a required precursor to a new Outlook account, using the exact same configuration as my other two accounts.

2. The new email account would send but not receive, but only on the MBA - I got continual "invalid user name/password" error messages - except that the user name/passwords were correct, and they worked fine in webmail, in Mail on the MBA, and on my iMac/10.6.8.

3. After hours of attempts to make it work - including fruitless calls to TWC/Roadrunner and a lot of generous help here from Cortig/Corentin - I somehow deleted all of my emails on the MBA. I think it was because I deleted all three email accounts so I could start over.

4. I recreated all three accounts again - correctly - and imported the emails from the iMac - that worked fine, though Outlook forced me to export ALL emails, which went back to 2002! You can imagine. There was no option to choose which folders to export.

5. That's when all three accounts refused to send or receive - the invalid username/password error message. Outlook on the MBA was now useless.

6. I thought that maybe having to import so many old emails had corrupted Outlook on the MBA, though it's the same Outlook 2011 as on the iMac. I thought it might have something to do with El Capitan.

7. So I deleted all the emails I had just imported. (I tried first to do this by deleting the accounts, but unlike the first time, when the emails disappeared after the account deletion, this time the emails were still there, though the accounts were gone. Just another addition to the pile of weirdnesses.)

8. Then on the iMac I dragged selected folders (instead of everything) into a flash drive and in the Info panel told it to open everything in Outlook 14.6.0 - which was the default and only choice anyway.

9. I then tried to drag the emails from the flash drive into Outlook on the MBA. This didn't work - they wouldn't drag, just bounced back. I half suspected this would happen because all the emails are .eml files instead of .mbox or .oml (the export format).

10. Not that my totally empty Outlook inbox matters - since none of the accounts will do anything anyway except tell me I'm using an "invalid username/password."

11. The bottom line - I've had no email in Outlook on the MBA for two days. Mail works - though I've never used it, I did create the new account there to see if it worked. It does - but I don't have my two other accounts there, and those are the ones I use for personal and business matters.

I thought maybe it had something to do with El Capitan not working well with Office 2011, but it had worked seamlessly well ever since I upgraded from Mavericks to El Capitan many months ago. It started screwing up only when I created that new account.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on? It's all a mystery to me because, again, all the username/passwords/configs are correct.

Sorry that this got so long as well - it's been days of trying one thing after another, with no solution. I'm resisting taking it to the shop because it's $120 just to drop it off. So thanks for any help.

In my Outlook for Mac 2011 there is a folder called”Bursts”, what is that?

In this folder I have one picture, which I don’t seem to be able to edit?

I am getting this msg when I try to send a msg. Outlook 11 closes down automatically. I can still receive msgs but not reply, forward or go to send the msg. My phone outlook that is tied to this still can send. Is this a virus. BTW, I recently did an update and have no other updates to download. I have a office 365 acct but office for mac 11 is on my mac which is the computer I am on and I live w/in the office for mac program.

Here is the msg: "Microsoft Outlook must be closed because an error occurred. Any unsaved work may be lost."
