My mother is unable to check her live.co.uk email address and we're getting the error message: Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password. [Error="ProxyNotAuthenticated" AuthResult=0 Proxy=AM2PR09MB0516.eurprd09.prod.outlook.com:1995:SSL]', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
Firstly, we know her username and password are correct! They work fine through webmail.
She is using Windows Mail to access multiple email accounts; all the others still work, and this one did up until Sunday. I've not been able to find much of a fix online: I did find this thread

and followed the steps in there to repair Windows Live Essentials, but that hasn't worked.
I have checked the server address and port (pop3.live.com and 995) and those are right.
My next move will probably be to remove the live account and re-add it, but I wanted to know if there was an actual fix for this I should try first.
Any suggestions?
