I recently upgraded my surface RT tablet to 8.1, and now many things don't work, in particular the skydrive account cannot sync with my actual account.  Despite the fact that I have changed nothing.

The symptoms

1 - Skydrive shows no files, only two empty directories Documents and Pictures.
2 - If one goes to options, the message "sorry we couldn't connect to skydrive please try again latre orgo to skydrive.com to change settings" appears.
3 - If I go online, everything is fine, all files show up, and there are no settings.
4 - The online account does not show the surface tablet.
5- The account on the surface is still the same one that is shown as the primary in my skydrive account.

Other incidental things:
After the install I had to re-enter my disk encryption key, which seemed ridiculous but may be unrelated.
