Security Questions – My Australian phone number not recognised

I have now created a new hotmail account.

I could not log into my previous account as my answer to the security question about my Australian phone number was not recognised. (it did not exist!!!)

MS Help  eventually sent me a new password but I still had to answer the security question about my Australian phone number which still does not exist!!

As I am now logged on via this non-existent phone number I am confused.

I have tried entering my phone number with and without area codes and spaces, also my mobile number but alas Australia is no longer recognised.

Contacts area has changed to People. How can I add people to my contact lists now?

They have changed the contacts area again. Now I'm having trouble adding people to my contact files. It's really hard to use. I haven't been able to figure it out. Does anyone have a suggestion? Why did they change it - it is not user friendly at all now. Help - so I can get back to business.

Someone ringing from microsoft said that they had noticed problems in our area and asked me to switch the computer on and go into the computer icon  to see if we had received any notifications of problems recently. I advised them of the status and they rang off , should I be concerned that this is a scam?

Received SMS code to my mobile phone months ago to set up alerts; confirmed activation in devices page.

 

Keep getting the same message when I check my phone number settings in Live:

 

"SMS services aren't available in your area".

 

If I originally received set up code via SMS, why can't I receive SMS alerts from Hotmail ?

 

Can anyone help, thanks !

can’t see the chat

when i signed in to messenger i can't chat , what ever i write it doesn't appear and also the revived massage doesn't appear  and what ever i can see is a weird  texts in the chat area

Why can’t I see the avatars (profile pics) of contacts on messenger?

 I have tried to find something in tools, have uninstalled and downloaded again - still no luck. :(

 

They all just show the name and a greyed out picture area.

 

I know this is not very important as I can still use messenger but it was so nice "seeing" them.

 

Hope somebody can help.
