I've logged into outlook.com with my old microsoft hotmail account. After this I received an email from the outlook.com team saying you could change your emailadres to @outlook.com and everything would go over to this account without problems, contacts, email, etc would all be going to the new account.

After doing this, my old @hotmail.com cannot be used to logon anymore, I have to use the outlook.com address.

Now when I do this in hotmail, everything seems te be fine.Even when I log into my Xbox, it shows the new account in the settings without even having to change anything. But when I do this on Messenger, the online list stays empty.

I see al the address offline in the list.

Other people do not see me coming online and I do not see them online. I've checked this also with my other account.

Will this take time, or is there a bug in the transfer from hotmail.com to outlook.com??

I got a question if i wanted a new address when using outlook.com .. i thought it was an additional address not a replacement.

I got a mail with link to revert to @live.no, but using the link just gave me the message "Account does not exist"  need my old address back! *** Email address is removed for privacy *** ... Or have i misunderstood, are both addresses active somehow?

Of course i didnt get any warning that my windowsphone account wouldnt work anymore.. it is stated when going through outlook settings, but i didnt get the message when it asked me to change account name.

Please help :)

btw: Outlook.com is an amazing service :)

After first login into Outlook.com you receive an offer for a new "email address""

Get a Outlook email address for your new inbox

You can get a new email address from Outlook. You don't have to worry about your contacts and previous emails, you'll keep them. And, you'll continue receiving messages sent to your Hotmail address.

Get new ID

No downside to that offer!   Be a nice chance to snag something easy to remember in the new domain.  BUT once you sign up for the new "email address" you get a message telling you that you just botched your live account and you have to use the new one to login now. On your phone. On your xbox. On all your other email clients. In Messenger. NoOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Here are a few other things to keep in mind:

· Email sent to your old address will still go to your account.

· Remember to always sign in with your new address; you won't be able to sign in with your old one. Why didnt you warn me first?

· If you'd like to stop receiving mail sent to your old address, just delete that address in account services.

I dont like my new email address that much. Not enough to make it my new login.
Change it back! Change it back!

The address i wanted to use for Hotmail was unavailable when I started using it - but was available for Outlook.Com - so i grabbed it.

Now i'd like all my old hotmail messages (and new ones I get at that address also) to come into the new Outlook accout i just set up.  Is that possible?

I'm looking to test this some more and was wondering if there are POP3 Setting available for the new Outlook.com

Thanks

I upgraded to an @outlook.com email adress today, and seems like I can't connect using the standalone windows live messenger app anymore (I tried my old hotmail.com adress AND the new outlook.com adress).

Hi there,

I can't view or remove new contacts from my Live Messenger, I can use the 'Add a friend' dropdown on Live Messenger to add a contact, but they don't get a request to add me nor do they appear in the 'offline' area of Live Messenger. When I go to the 'Contacts'->'Delete A Contact...' menu I can see their details in there but can't delete them. When I click on their name to delete them, it just closes the 'Delete A Contact...' box and they are still there when I open it up again. If I try to add them as a contact again Live Messenger tells me I already have a contact with that email, and emails need to be unique. Users have tried to add me too, but I get no contact request through from them at all.

I have added contacts before, I currently have 4 people on my contact list, and these show as online/offline correctly, and I can chat with them. It's only new contacts this is happening with. I haven't made any major changes to my OS since I installed Live Messenger and added the original 4 contacts about 1 month ago.

Things I've tried;
  • I've tried adding the contacts through hotmail.com in my web browser, I can see the contacts in my 'contact list' in the browser but they still don't show up in my Live Messenger and not in the 'messenger' area of the browser when logged into hotmail.com.
  • I've tried uninstalling Live Messenger and re-installing it, but that didn't work.
  • I've also tried uninstalling the whole of Windows Live Essentials, and then re-installing Live messenger, but that hasn't helped either.
  • I've tried adding the users to my favourites, but they don't appear there either.
  • I've tried adding the users through hotmail.com and then deleting them there, but they still show up in my Live Messenger's 'Delete A Contact...' list and Live won't let me add them again as they already exist.
It seems a bit odd I can't delete the contacts to try adding them again. I'm using Live Messenger 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.308) on Windows 7

Any help would be appreciated!
