I cannot open my Outlook version for Mac. I keep getting the following messages:
1) Upgrade Office database
2) Rebuild database utility
3) Identity is older than this version of outlook.
4)It will not allow be to rebuild it reads "done" Help is really needed.
5) I just purchased the new license for my desktop MAC. I synced my laptop MAC to the new desktop MAC than realize that I could not open my Word,PPT, Excel. Never used Outlook on my laptop.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The advice given by Microsoft does not work and is totally useless. I have been trying to run Microsoft AutoUpdate to install the automatically downloaded update to 14.2.4 for my Office for Mac on my Mac-Book Air 2011 running OS.X Mountain Lion. My Office programs latest updates are 14.2.3.
When you try to run AutoUpdate Installer it wants me to Quit Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServices Agent so I followed the advice given on the Answers on Office for Mac pages about using Activity Monitor but when I follow the resolution using the Activity Monitor as soon as the applications are given the instruction to Quit or Force Quit they just start up again so there is no way of installing the update.

Is there any other way of switching them off, e.g. at StartUp so the Updates can be installed?

So currently I can not install any updates to the Office software including ones which involve Security issues. This is not good enough. Please advise solution?

Why have Microsoft not identified and resolved this issue already? It must affect more than just my Mac.
My outlook 2011 on my Mac crashed.  I have restored the 'identity' found in "Office 2011 Identities" in my Time Machine to my current desktop.  I then renamed the identity to a new name and then copied it to my current "Office 2011 identity' folder.  I made it the default identity.  Outlook database utility asked me to rebuild the identity and that is where the problem starts.

It will:
  • Scan
  • Verify
  • Copy records to new database
  • Recovering data

all those go great, BUT the next step it comes up with:  YOUR DATABASE could not be rebuilt.

What am I doing wrong?

I have a user running OS X 10.6.8 and Office 2011 for Mac Outlook v. 14.2.3 . Previously this user was on Entourage with Office 2008 for Mac. We are using an Exchange 2007 server. This user is on a MacPro.

The problem is the user is frequently getting messages that the Outlook database needs to be rebuilt.  When then problem started this happened once a month. This became once a week and now is several times a week, if not daily.

Sometimes it happens when they open Outlook, other times it happens after they have been using Outlook for several hours.

Does anyone know what is causing this? What can be done to stop this from reoccurring?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Just got into this iMac a month ago. On Saturday I did some straightening up.   Now I can't find anything that I have done in Outlook. Two actions may have been the factor:
1.  I moved the folder containing Microsoft User Data which was stowed in a Documents folder to a different folder in Documents
2. I turned on the Outlook menu item Sync Services.
Then I wandered off to have a weekend.
Today I tried to launch Outlook and all of my data - inbox, saved folders full of sent and received messges, thousands of contacts in a score of folders, reminders, you name it, gone!
It told me that the database needed to be rebuilt and that process failed several times. Then it said it worked, but my Accounts and all the data are still MIA.
While a file called Database dated September 7 exists in my Main Identity folder there appears no way to open it.  To be exact, now, under Office 2011 Identity there are two folders, Main Identify (with Data records folder, file called Database dated today with 22.6 MB and file called Database copy dated September 7 with 157.2MB.  This is the one I would like to get at as that is where the information should be. The other folder is called Main Identity [Backed up...Date info being today and that appears completely useless.
Needless to say this situation is extremely frustrating. It had taken a month of rearranging of my historic data from a PC to achieve a highly organized system...which is gone
:(
Help would be gratefully accepted.
