Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 - upgrade and install problems
I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Trial Version (which worked fine).
After my trial was up I upgraded to Office for Mac University 2011, while the apps worked fine the main dictionary disappeared from Word Excel etc so spelling errors were not picked up. When I checked the spelling options the "Hide spelling options" checkbox was ticked and greyed out

I followed the instructions in the post "Dictionary/Spell Checker Issue" post, however when I reinstalled Office for Mac University 2011 (without uninstalling office first) I had a number of errors when opening documents. E.g:
- excel: the file could not be accessed
- outlook: could not change to that identity an unknown error has occurred in outlook

Obviously I should have removed Office for Mac University 2011 before the new install but this was not stated in the article.  Below are some links on removing and reinstalling  office for Mac 2011. Do not do a "complete removal" unless you want to loose all your identity data (eg outlook emails)

I then removed Office for Mac University 2011 per instructions below and reinstalled. After this my Word Excel and Powerpoint worked fine but my Outlook would not open and I got following outlook errors:
- could not change to that identity an unknown error has occurred in outlook
Identity could not open with this version of Outlook for Mac
After several installs I found a useful site that resolved problem by providing instructions for upgrading  Office 2011 to Service Pack 2 (SP2), I can't recall the site but to do this you simply open Word Excel or another office app that does not have errors, then click "Help" then "Check for Updates". Once the new update SP2 update had been installed my outlook problems disappeared and I had full access to my Outlook identity, archives and emails

  1. In the Finder, under Devices, click the hard disk where Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 is installed.

  2. Open the Applications folder, and then drag the Microsoft Office 2011 folder to the Trash.

  3. Close the Applications folder, open the Library folder, and then drag the following files to the Trash.

    • Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointBrowserPlugin.plugin

    • Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointWebKitPlugin.plugin

    • LaunchDaemons/com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper.plist

    • Preferences/com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist

    • PrivilegedHelperTools/com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper

Note  In Snow Leopard, you also have to delete all Office 2011 receipts in /private/var/db/receipts/. (Snow Leopard moved receipts into this hidden directory, only available by “Go to Folder” in the Finder, or from the command terminal.)
  4. On the Finder menu, click Empty Trash.

  5. Restart your computer.

  6. Install Office for Mac again.

I can not send email messages on WLM.  However, I can receive messages.  The messages are going to the out box.  WLM was working fine since I purchased the Dell computer in April 2012.  The problem started today, 8/29/12.  The email messages are one or two words in length.  I can send and receive messages on my COX webmail account.  The following is the error message I receive:

Can you help me.

We recently Upgraded from Entourage 2008 to Outlook for Mac 2011. Migration went fine for all 50 users. I went to replace one users mac and the new mac gives this error. I have noticed 2 other desktops I just setup are also giving this error. No laptops I just setup are giving this error. All macs use the same image regardless if they are a laptop or desktop.

I found in another thread on here to uncheck use SSL. Everyone has this checked.
I also found something server side. If it was server side wouldn't everyone be having this issue?

I'm puzzled.
I installed the 14.2.3 Office update.  It installed fine and is running without error.  However, when I check my console, I am getting a regular error posting from 'com.microsoft.SyncServicesAgent' claiming that the file it is trying to use isn't found.  That is correct because it is trying to use a test identity I created while trying to undo a failed installation Office 14.2.0, I have checked .plist files and can find no place where this identity is listed.

How can I get SyncServices to stop looking for this identity?
I'm having this same problem of not being able to receive email via Outlook.  I've spent considerable time with my ISP and it appears the configurations are correct.  I've reviewed the threads and have followed these steps but I'm still getting the 5.7.1 authentication error.  My ISP indicates that the 2011 version is not supported by them so I'm stuck.  How can I resolve this problem.

The incoming server works fine but the outgoing server does not.  I've followed my ISP's instructions including overriding the default port and manually including the specified number.  I've triple checked my entries more than I care to admit.

Would appeciate any guidance.

Thanks much.  John
When I try to install Windows Live Essentials, this error is reported.
Hello;

1) Suddenly I haven’t been able since this morning to send any emails (Windows Live Mail / Win 7 Pro SP1 64-bit).
I continue however to receive emails, but not sending!
The error message (Item 5 below) provides a Server Error # and WLM Error ID.

2) I Contacted the ISP.
They checked the a/c, protocol, Incoming/Outgoing addresses, etc., and couldn’t figure out the problem.
The ISP advised: “Contact MS. They should be able to fix the problem.”

3) Contacted MS Customer Service.
They don’t provide technical support for Windows Live Mail because according to MS: “It’s a free MS product”.
MS advised however: “For $ 100.+tax, we can access your computer and provide detail diagnoses of the problem.”
I thanked MS for their offer!!

4) I repaired Windows Essentials, ran a full system scan, etc., and tried again to send a one-word email to myself (Subject: Testing).
No improvement. Same error message (Item 5 below)!

5) I uninstalled WLM, and re-installed the full Windows Essentials 2012 (incl. WLM 2012).
Tried to send email to myself.
Got the same Error:

An unknown error has occurred.
Subject 'Testing'

Your help and advice would be greatly acknowledged and appreciated.
