Question about Outlook Express

My email window has for some reason been 're-formatted'...not sure if it 'spontaneously' did so, or if someone is 'messing with it'. When I go to inbox, the folders are listed on left side of page (no emails visible to right), then, as I continue to scroll down there is a large expanse of white "nothing"....
then list of contacts, etc, on left side of page...followed by more expanse of nothing...I keep scrolling and the delete, move, forward buttons that are normally across top and bottom of email page, are listed vertically on the left of the page...then finally emails, which will sometimes open, and sometimes not. To wrap things up, when I want to delete something I have to scroll back up for each item to the vertical list way above, and delete, foreward, or move....a real pain in the neck, because extremely time consuming. PLEASE HELP. I generally use firefox, but can use internet explorer, if necessary.
