I'm running Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011, Version 14.2.2 (120421) on Mac OS X, Version 10.6.8, build 10K549.  My "$HOME/Documents" directory is a symbolic link to a directory on an external NAS, accessed by NFS.

I observed that e-mail search functionality doesn't work, and the reason appears to be that Spotlight refuses to index this volume:

$ sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/MyNFSMountPoint
Password:
/Volumes/MyNFSMountPoint:
Error: unable to perform operation.  (-100)
No index.

For the sake of reliability, I am very reluctant to move "$HOME/Documents" directory to, say, my local drive.  (My NAS is protected by RAID and is backed up regularly.  Moving critical data off of the NAS would complicate matters considerably.)  By the way, it's perfectly fine with me if exactly one host--the computer on which I'm running Microsoft Outlook--is responsible for indexing the drive.  In other words, I don't require or expect multiple Mac OS X hosts to be able to use Spotlight with this volume--just the one that is running Outlook.

Having one's e-mail in a network-mounted directory is an entirely reasonable use case, so I'm wondering:

1. Perhaps I've misconfigured my NFS server or the NFS client settings in Mac OS X, and with a tweak or two, Spotlight can be made to start indexing this internal drive.
2. Perhaps Microsoft offers an alternative way, that does not depend on Spotlight, to index and search through one's e-mail.
3. If neither #1 nor #2 is the case, how can I contact Microsoft to request that they add this feature to a subsequent release of Outlook?  Whether the deficiency is in Spotlight, Darwin, Mac OS X, or Microsoft Outlook, Outlook really ought to be able to cope with such a use case as this.  Not being able to search e-mail on a network-mounted volume is unacceptable.

Where do I go from here?
It would greatly help me to de-stress about the terrible loopholes in Office 2011, particularly Outlook's functionality, synching and spelling checkers  if I knew what MS is working on. If I knew they were paying the slightest bit of attention to our working needs in practice, I could at least resign myself to waiting. Does anyone know what the next gen office suite is likely to have built in as improvements?

How can I customise the contact address format.  In the UK the initial part of the address may take several lines (e.g. house name, estate name, street name).  It would be OK if you could multi-line e.g. the 1st field but you can't even do that (as the Mac built-in address book allows).  So I need to either add fields or multi-line fields before it can work

I was forced to urgently purchase this software because of price increases (i.e. beak MS changing their US$ to GB£ to 1=1 !!).  And I have to say, Outlook is an embarrassment to MS.  I seem to be spending ages reporting bug after bug on the feedback form, but these are more of a nuisance and annoyance than stopping functionality.  It is the lack of functionality (functionality that was often in Entourage) that is the main problem.  It is marginally unworkable but as it could not even import my Apple Mail accounts and messages that took a full day to do manually so I'm going to persevere.  It's not like it's a just released product either I(where one has to be tolerant of "issues").

So help sorting out these things would be much appreciated as I have a lot invested (in terms on money and time).

(Latest Lion OS and updated Office 2011 as of 26 June 2012 on Macbook 13" with free RAM and 40% disk space free).

AFTER THE MOST RECENT MS UPDATES TO MY WINDOWS 7 COMPUTER MUCH OF THE FUNCTIONALITY STOPPED IN SOME PROGRAMS. FOR EXAMPLE, IF I WERE TO LOG INTO FACEBOOK WE CANNOT SEND A MESSAGE OR POST A PICTURE FROM THIS COMPUTER, BUT CAN FROM ANOTHER COMPUTER. OUR WINDOWS MAIL CAN NO LONG BE ACCESSED. (WINDOWS ESENTIAL WAS UPDATED TOO). I DID A SYSTEM RESTORE TO GET MY COMPUTER BACK, BUT THEN OVER NIGHT THE UPDATES WERE INSTALLED AND NOTHING WORKS AGAIN. NEED TO GET THIS RESOLVED AS I ALSO WORK FROM HOME ON THIS COMPUTER OR OUR OTHER COMPUTER (XP) AND THRN MY WIFE WORKS ON THE WINDOWS 7 COMPUTER(THE ONE WITH THE PROBLEMS)

OKEASE ADVISE ME HOW RO CORRECT TO GET BACK OUR FUNCTIONALITY

I imported my Entourage 2004 POP rules into Outlook 2011.  The rules are available in Outlook and they appear to be correct.  Yet not a single incoming or outgoing rule is functional.  What do I need to do to to obtain rule functionality?  I have more than 40 rules, so recreating each rule is a major problem.
