We have a user whose main identity database is corrupt, and the database utility just hangs with no progress, even left running overnight.

The disc itself checked out clean, but it appears the identity is beyond repair.

Is there any way to salvage some of the mail stored locally  in that identity?

We use Exchange, but have pretty strict size limits, resulting in most folks saving mail locally.

There was a recent Time Machine backup (though I'm not sure if that database is corrupt), but we're getting a "you don't have access" error when I try to restore it, so I can't test it.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I have a number of folders "On My Computer" - I used to be able to move messages from my Inbox to these folders: it's the way I keep my old messages organized. Today, however, I tried it and the messages won't move; they just 'snap back' to the Inbox. I've tried rebuilding my Identity database (holding down option key while starting Outlook) but this doesn't seem to help the issue.

I did have a POP account with gmail, which I changed to an IMAP account, and I added an additional IMAP account. But that was days and days ago and I know that I've moved messages during that time.

Any help would be most welcome!
