Unable to send or receive messages for the Birdsathome (vogelopvang) account. Windows Live Mail couldn't log on to the email server using secure password authentication. Contact your email provider and verify that it supports secure password authentication. To change this logon setting, in the folder list, right-click on the account name, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu. In the Properties dialog, click the Servers tab, and then under Incoming Mail Server, select a logon option.

Split from an unrelated thread

I run my roadrunner email account through Windows Live Mail and until today had not been having problems with it on my new laptop which runs Windows 8. However today, all of a sudden, it started giving me the error message seen below. I did not change any of the settings although I did install the Windows 8.1 update today - don't know if that's related to the problems I'm suddenly having. Please let me know what I should do to solve this problem! It seems to be a problem with the incoming mail server but I don't know how to fix it. My internet connection is working fine so that's not the problem.

Desktop system  |  Windows 7 Ultimate  |  Outlook 2013  |  Verizon as ISP

I finally migrated over to MS Outlook 2013 and setup my email accounts: outlook.com and a verizon.net. Even though I purchased the software a while ago, I just now decided to cut over from Live Mail to Outlook.

Problem - I can receive emails, but cannot send emails. When I send an email from Verizon.net account a message comes back instantaneously "System Administrator, Undeliverable". When I send a message from outlook.com account, it simply stays in my Outbox like a dead fish.

Verified with Verizon that their settings are OK and everything working fine on their end. I have Norton Antivirus and chatted with someone there and it doesn't seem to be anything on their end.

Here are my details for verizon.net account setup:

Account Type: POP3

Incoming mail server: pop.verizon.net

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net

Check mark on "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)

Outgoing server tab - Check on "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication", check on "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"

Advanced tab - Incoming server {POP3) = 995, check on "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL), Outgoing server (SMTP) = 465, Use the following type of encrypted connection = SSL

Can someone please help? Greatly appreciate it.

Yesterday all of the people on our private email hhnsb.net received our last email on the PC and web client. We can send and see the old emails. Our private URL is now unreachable. There must be a problem with the incoming mail server at Microsoft that I cannot fix locally. The email is very important to us. If someone from Microsoft is listening you can reply to the alternate email on this account. I think you'll see the problem if you try to reach the URL.  If you do not fix the email, then notifying me by trying to send email to the non-function email will not work. Thank you.
Hello,

I am quite  perplexed about this error  0x800CCC0B which only shows me when WLM is only sending a message from only one Gmail account which added to WLM with using Incoming mail server (POP3) name 'pop.gmail.com' via the port 995, and the outgoing mail sever name 'smtp.gmail.com'( with the port 465).

Besides, there is another Gmail account also added to WLM with the same outgoing and incoming mail sever names and with the same ports. However, there is no error sending messages at all while WLM is sending messages using this account, although the outgoing sever name  the port(465) is the same.

These two screenshots show the sever names of both accounts:::

Although I have activated the pop in both gmail accounts, this didn't make difference.

When I tried changing the port of outgoing mail sever from 465 to 25, the Gmail account which was sending messages without problem became having the same problem.
This is strange.

This is the error::

An unknown error has occurred.

Subject 'Hi'
Server: 'smtp.gmail.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0B
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 465
Secure(SSL): Yes

The connection to the server has failed.

Subject 'Hi'
Server: 'smtp.gmail.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): Yes
Socket Error: 10013

I know if an account is synchronised with WLM and there are errors receiving messages, then the issue is in the incoming mail server name or in its port. However, if there are errors sending messages, then the issue is in the outgoing mail sever name or its port. I am right?

Outlook.com stopped connecting to my att.net POP3 mail as Thursday, 10/24. I have a ssbcglobal.net email account and an att.net email account that are no longer being refreshed in Outlook.com.

I was able to see my mail on my iPhone via my hotmail.com account, but that now does not work.  I deleted the hotmail.com account from the iPhone and created new entries for each account separately.  The accounts created on the iPhone successfully connected to email server, but the server and port combination is different than what is allowed in Outlook.com.  The incoming mail server to which the iPhone connects is imap.mail.yahoo.com.  It uses SSL and the port number is 993.  I do not know the outgoing mail server settings.

Outlook.com defaults the incoming mail server to inbound.att.net and port number to 995. The server name can be changed, of course, but the only options for port numbers are 110 and 995.  Is there any way to override the available port number options so that I can try to connect to imap.mail.yahoo.com?

Thanks, Rick
