OUTLOOK MAIL HELP!!

I just bought  window 8 and outlook  mail program. HAD A TECH COME AND SET IT UP AND I GUESS HE DID NOT KNOW AND NETIHER DID I THAT MY SERVICE PROVIDER DOES NOT SUPPORT WINDOW 8 . I CONTACTED THEM AND THEY GAVE ME INSTRUCTION ON WHAT TO DO,, THEIR INSTRUCTION DID NOT WORJK. I HAVE TRIED CHANGING IT TO IMAP AND THAT IS NOT WORKING EITHER. I  AM PRETTY NEW AT ALL THIS AND REALLY NEED SOME SIMPLE INSTRUCTION ON WHAT TO DO.

I ALSO KEEP GETTING A BOX THAT WANTS ME TO SIGN IN TO HOTMAIL WITH A PASSWORD, I NEVER HAD A HOT MAIL ACCOUNT.

MICRO SOFT IS NOT A BIG HELP EITHER AS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND EITHER AN EMAIL OR PHONE NO FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

ALL THE ONE I HAVE COME ACROSS WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR THEIR HELP.

As I'm going to be away for 3 weeks, I like to inform all my contacts that I'll not be around to answer their queries till such time. How do I set up a message in my Inbox informing them of my absence?

The answer meant to be helpful but did not understand the instruction which was & I quote 'go to gear on the right>more mail settings>manage your account>vacation reply'.  I cant find it to get the link for doing what the instruction suggested?

I followed your instruction how to go back to my old hotmail and now there is almost a page of space and cannot open or delete emails.

Sorry there seems to be a problem with hotmail right now The message you selected could not be found it may have been moved or deleted.

Instruction 'Please click the folder to refresh the view, and beneath this there is a message to 'Try to return to Hotmail.' I have been getting this message for months after each return to my emails on a daily basis. However today I am getting a page without messages at all when I try to access my emails why? I have managed to get into them once today after this, but am now unable to get them at all.
