I have Windows 8.1.  some of the issues I've faced : up to 3 minutes to open an email; to click to Reply it responds with "not responding"; takes forever to close; today I received an alert that the calendar isn't working correctly, and  on and on.  I have been reading the Community for months  hoping for some solution. I finally saw what I hoped was an answer: in  Dec tech said to go to the Programs :page, select Windows Live Essentials double click and choose repair.  I did that and it downloaded a repair which seemed instantly to improve the software.  It also directed that I notify the account mgr. to ensure the repair was locked in.  I wasn't sure what that meant so I contacted the Microsoft Windows Acct which asked me to reset my passwords This was a mistake since it caused me no end of trouble getting back into my accounts.  Note: a GEEK Squad rep told me to download Live Mail to an ext. drive; then uninstall Live Mail 2011 and then reinstall it.  Why of why isn't there an update for Live Mail 2011 when sooooo many people have terrible experiences with the current software. This isn't right, so Microsoft should fix it

The Repair did NOT last.  I've tried that many times since and it never locks in..

I can't go offline from the IE 11 windows screen file or tools button( no option offered) or in Windows live mail from the off/online button.  I ran SFC, windows essentials repair and set IE to default values - no luck.  I am online all the time and can't get off to stop mail from downloading.  What else can I do?

I am on Windows live Mail 2012 under Windows 8.1. The management of Contacts Categories in Live Mail 2011 worked beautifully but several things are different in Live Mail 2012. I can live/work-around some but my biggest problem is trying to  'update' a category list. When you call up the edit on the category, the current category names are no longer hi-lighted. Without this feature it makes it very difficult to update. If I have 500 contacts and I'm trying to update a category with 30 contacts it is very very difficult to do.  I am looking forward to a fix on this, a reversal to the Live Mail 2011 way, or an explanation on how the 2012 works.

Live mail stopped working over a month ago and I now have 21 failures. After 13 messages, I tried changing my password but that didn't solve the problem. I now have 8 additional message failures. All failures are followed with the following message:

"For security reasons, this email account has been temporarily deactivated. A picture containing letters and numbers will appear when you close this window. To reactivate your account, enter the characters you see in the picture."

This was added to the first failed message:

   Subject: "Screening complaint"

   Server:  smtp prodigy.yahoo.com

  Protocol: SMTP

  Port: 25

  Secure (SSL): No

 Socket Error: 10060

The latest message had this added:

Subject: EEOC website link provided (I am not providing the complete info here)

Server error: 3207

Windows Live Mail Error 0x8DE00006

How do I resolve these issues?

Have been using Windows Live Mail 2012 for a year and it stopped working 2 days ago. Get the Following message.

Server Error:204

Server: http:/mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.espx

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8DE20003

In bottom right hand corner the message "updating calendar" keeps blinking.

Tried to reconfiguer account but did not help

Can you give me instructions that I can understand to fix this problem.

I can no longer get to my newsgroups because Live Mail says it cannot connect to the internet, possibly due to antivirus program or firewall.  I turned off anti virus and still can't connect.   I checked firewall and Live Mail is being given permission to connect.  Also, Live Mail  DOES download my email;  it is only the newsgroups that are causing problems.  This occurred with Microsoft newsgroups as well as my other newsgroup.  How can I correct this?  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no difference.  I also created a new user account and I still have the problem with that account.  Please help.  I don't want to reinstall my entire OS if possible.

I have no problem on my laptop connecting with WLM and have similar settings on both,

Thanks.

(I have corrected this problem).  I was notified of several replies, but none showed up when  I went to the post, so I thought I would just edit to thank everyone.  A reply to my next post was the answer.  I had entered the port number incorrectly. )

Using email @prodigy.net for years.  No longer work with Live Mail.  Changed to the new settings (which by the way work with Outlook that is used at my workplace) and I keep getting the error below.  Doesn't like port 465 nor the 'inbound.att.net setting?   Also my Live Mail seems to want to go to incoming server setting 25?  Please Help!
