HELP!!!!  Thanks, I have used Outlook for YEARS on a PC and loved it, it is my go to application, I think this not sending thing has really
just started.
I have repeatedly tried the instructions provided for IMAP access with Mac Mail, and repeatedly get the error:

"The connection to the server “imap-mail.outlook.com” on port 993 timed out."

On the current attempt, I haven't yet received this error but after approximately 15 minutes (on a very high speed connection) only my 'Junk' folder has synced (all other folders are present, but empty).

Please could you advise on what might be wrong here? I'm using a '@hotmail.com' email address, if that affects matters at all.
Hi,

I am so excited that Outlook.com now support IMAP.  I set my Mac Mail up right away, but it doesn't sync inbox.  rest of folders are all sync'ed up.

When I click on a warning icon next to inbox, i see "IMAP command Exmine failed with server error 9".

I've removed and re-set up my hotmail account on the Mac Mail, but still doesn't sync inbox.

I've also tried to set up hotmail via IMAP on Mac Outlook and inbox does not sync either.

Thanks for your help.
Likely many others here, thank you Microsoft for adding IMAP support.
I have managed to import my inbox and various folders into Mac Mail; but have been unable to import my sent items.
Any ideas?

Now that Microsoft has announced IMAP support for Outlook.com hosted email accounts, how do I convert my exisitng account in Mac Mail from a POP to an IMAP account.

My account was created initially as a @live.com account (with and @outlook.com alias).  I added my Microsoft hosted account some time ago into Mac Mail and it shows up in the preference pane for that account as a POP account.  The server for my existing account is listed in the preferences as "Windows Live (POP)"

I would like to convert from POP to IMAP and still retain all my existing emails.  I do not wish to create a new IMAP account for my Microsoft hosted email and lose what I have archived over the years.

I use the version of Mac Mail that came with Mountain Lion for email services.

Thanks in advance for your help

I have tried doing this with MAC Mail per the setup, but I get a unique errors. Twitter asked me to post here and see if I can get help. After setting up MAC MAIL with Outlook setup, my Inbox populates and I hit synchronize and it starts getting all my folders. Once that is done, if I click on any of my folders to view messages, then go back to my Inbox, my entire Inbox is gone. I have tried multiple times and cant figure out why its doing this (see screenshots below).

I then used Microsoft Outlook for MAC 2011, and it works fine.
Firstly - thanks to MS for enabling IMAP on Outlook.com.  I found the discussion on Reddit interesting and largely refreshing.

In trying to implement the new feature I have followed the newly released instructions to set up my MacMail using IMAP to sync with Outlook.com.

The mail I send shows both in the Mac Mail Sent folder and also in the Outlook.com  Sent folder so it is clearly syncing.

However the bcc to the Outlook.com email address does not show up as received in either the Mac Mail Inbox or the Outlook.com Inbox.  When I try to synchronize the Mac Mail account I get the following error message:

The connection to the server “imap-mail.outlook.com” on port 993 timed out.

I wonder if there is a problem with the IMAP servers or is there some problem with my setup on the Mac even though I believe I have followed the instructions correctly.

I did eventually receive this error message:

"The identity of "imap-mail.outlook.com" cannot be verified.

The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server

that is pretending to be "imap- mail.outlook.com" which could put your

confidential information at risk. Do you want to connect to the server

anyway?

O Always trust "*.hotmail.com" when connecting to "imap- mail.outlook.com"

I checked the button to always trust .hotmail.com but it does not appear to have solved the problem.  It would be good for future if MS did update their certificate to reflect the correct name for this server.

Any help will be appreciated.
I use MAC mail with Outlook.com IMAP. When i delete a message in MAC mail, it stays in my Inbox on Outlook.com. I don't want it. The message should be moved to deleted. How do i get this to work?

Can someone explain to me why my email with an outlook.com domain fails to work with the Mac Mail app, but works completely fine with hotmail.com and live.com domains? They're essentially the same service, so I cannot understand why outlook.com alone doesn't work.

I got around this by creating an alias of my main outlook.com account so I could have a hotmail.com domain for it. And surprisingly, it worked.

What is going on?
