I use the Windows Live Mail 2012 interface for my Outlook account.
I retain selected undeleted older mail in a series of folders some labeled "2008 Keep", "2009 Keep", "2010 Keep", "2011 Keep", "2011 recover", "2012 Current", "2013 CURRENT", and other various named folders. I wanted to correct the name of the "2012 Current" folder to "2012 Keep". I also tried to move some messages to its correctly named folder.
It is possible that I may have acted before all messages were moved, but in the process of dragging a folder I inadvertently dropped it and created a subfolder. I do not recall the subsequent sequence of actions, but I did delete a folder after dragging the contents to another folder and verifying that the incorrect folder was empty.
Now I see that I have lost the folder named 2012 Keep with all its contents. The folder existed earlier today, and it contained messages received in 2012.
Interestingly, on a laptop which I disconnected from the network before starting I have all the 2012 Keep folder with contents with contacts apparently intact as it was used and updated a few days ago. I somehow have to restore the recent folder contents back to the Outlook server or possibly transfer the from my laptop back to the server in some way without corrupting the send dates.

Hi everyone, I am new to Windows Live Mail Essentials, but was a former user of Windows Live. Unless I am doing something really wrong with WLM, it is the most cumbersome email program I have ever tried. So please, hopefully there is someone out there that an help me with my issues.
1) I have tons of email folders on the left side of the inbasket. If I want to select a folder, I scroll through the list and click on it only to have it flip me back to the inbox or to the last folder I was using and I then have to scroll back to the folder I needed. Is there a way to fix this so it remains on the selected folder the first time?
2) I imported my contacts list and also all of my email from a Vista 32bit machine where I used Windows Live to this new Windows 7 64 bit with Windows Live Mail Essentials. Nothing imported as it should. It all appeared in the 'Special Folders' section which wouldn't have been so bad if I could drag and drop those folders to appear under the Inbox at the top. I also thought I would just leave them where they were, but the folder names had changed and that would mean I have to scroll clear to the bottom each time I wanted to look in one of those folders. So I am in my second week of selecting each one, highlighting the messages within the folder (you can't move the folder and all of the emails), creating a new folder and moving the contents to that folder at the top. What a waste of time.
To make matters worse, I selected all of the email files during the export and only about half of them exported. Eeeeek. So I now have the other laptop sitting next to the new one and I am comparing what I have and don't have.
3) Is there any way I can move the 'sent', 'deleted', 'draft' 'junk email' and 'outbox' folders from the bottom to the top under the inbox? This is so cumbersome and so much scrolling.
4) Is there a true user guide or is there a help within the email program? If there is, I just haven't found it.
So you can see from my questions, this has not been a very pleasant experience. I'm really hoping someone out there can say 'you dope, here's how you do it' and it will clear up all of my questions.
Thanks so much,
Judy F.

I have a question about how to get a ‘On My Computer' Folder.
I currently have:
Inbox
----My Mail accounts are listed under here
Drafts
Sent Items
Deleted Items
My Mail Folders are listed here. This includes new mail folders and the mail folders imported from Entourage 2008
Junk E-mail
Smart Folders
----Subfolders
I do not have a On My Computer folder, so all my Mail folder are on the same level as Inbox, Drafts, etc.. How do I get a On My Computer folder?
Thanks.
