I am long time Outlook.com user and run my own email server (so I have a solid understanding of SPF, MX records, etc).
I forward certain accounts to Outlook.com (for reasons such as push email notification to mobile devices).

For the past few days, email forwarding DOES NOT WORK which is a major issue.

Here is another user complaining of the same issue:

I also posted at the bottom of this thread:

Long story short, this issue is sporadic.  At times the forwarding works, the next it does not.
Steps I have taken:
  1. My dedicated IP has a flawless reputation; I have rDNS setup; I contact the Outlook.com postmaster using the Microsoft form and they replied that there is no issue with delivering email.
  2. The only filter I have is to never put anything in the SPAM folder; mark everything as legitimate email.
  3. Outlook does NOT bounce emails; I did get one error: "Result: SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: host mx1.hotmail.com [65.55.37.88]: 550 5.7.0 (COL0-MC2-F10) Unfortunately, messages from (192.65.243.59) on behalf of (chase.com) weren't sent. The domain's message authentication polic" but it appears to be Outlook.com INCORRECTLY checking SPF records on the original domain vs. checking SPF records on the sending IP/domain (meaning my server that I am forwarding to Outlook.com

It seems possible that a few of MX server's are handling forwarding different which is causing the inconsistencies in it working.
Please help.
Thank you.

The issue started around the same time that Outlook.com was having its downtime sessions last week.

Emails sent from my main @live.com account are never received by the recipient.  The emails are in the Sent Mail folder.

It doesn't matter what the email address is.  @Outlook.com, @Live.com or external domains.

I have sent message headers to some MSFT support division and the answer received was that the problem is with the recipients mail server.  That is very hard to believe that EVERY mail server to which I am sending email is suddenly misconfigured.  The message headers sent were for emails not delivered to the @Outlook.com and @Live.com servers.  If the MSFT support response was actually correct, then the recipient's mail server is maintained by MSFT and I have no control over that.

I suspect that the issue with Sent mail never being received is just left over from the Outlook.com outage last week.  It is difficult to conduct business when all email sent is never received.

After a day or so, I sometimes receive a notice that delivery has been delayed, so it is not an issue of being sent to JUNK.

Suggestions?

My ISP has just changed from o2 to sky but I cannot set up my emails in windows live. I have tried to set up a new account with the sky details but when I do, although it shows the sky email box, there is nothing in it. But when I log on via the sky website it shows emails. If I click the update on windows live it comes up with the wrong sky server which says    pop.sky.com  but it should say   pop.tools.sky.com  if I change it manually to the correct version I keep getting a message saying "an encrypted connection to your mail server is not available". I have rung sky but they say it is a Microsoft problem, they are no help at all. Any ideas please?

I received an email as listed below:

"Due to scheduled update of our mail server you are required to verify your account by clicking on the verify link below".

It looked like an email from Hotmail but I don't trust it.

Anybody else receive such an emal?  I did not open any link.

Thank you

duane.

Hello,

Well, I currently have Outlook Email right now and I would like to add another one. I have followed the instructions to Set up a new Mail Server (MyFreeola)  however every time I add my account information and the POP3 email information it says - There's a problem connecting to the POP3 mail server.

I don't know what's wrong. I have the POP3 and SMTP information of my Mail Server on Freeola but it's not working.

This is the information I have used provided from Freeola.

  1. Load Microsoft Outlook.

  2. From the menu bar at the top of the screen select 'Tools', then 'E-mail Accounts'. In the window that opens, select the 'Add a New E-mail Account' option. Click 'Next'.

  3. For the server type, select POP3. Then click 'Next'.

  4. Enter the name you want to appear on outgoing e-mails from you in the Your Name field. Example: John Smith.

  5. In the 'E-mail Address' field, type in: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.

  6. In the 'Username' field, type in: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.

  7. In the 'Password' field, type in: ********

  8. In the 'Incoming Mail Server (POP3)' field, type in: mail.freeola.net.

  9. In the 'Outgoing Mail Server' field, type in: smtp.freeola.net.

  10. Click 'Next', then Finish and you're all set to send e-mail!

Hi,
When I try to send an email, in a few hours I will get a message from postmaster@mail.hotmail.com saying
THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.
Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.
*** Email address is removed for privacy ***

Sometime later - generally a 48-72 hours later, I get one or two more emails, both saying
Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect successfully to the destination mail server
*** Email address is removed for privacy ***

This happens with or without an attachment and it does not seem to matter what domain I am sending to.   I have verified the email addresses exist - in two cases, I am the administrator on the recipients mail server.

I am unwilling to post a source view of the offending emails in a public forum...

Please help.

Sterling

These are the error messages coming up when I try to send or receive.  I updated my mail box at 10:30 am and by 130pm I was unable to send or receive.  Nothing was done to this account for the three hour period.  This just happened all on its own.  Please help!

I've recently moved all my personal email to Hotmail and I'm getting responses from Spamcop to say that the email server I'm using is being blocked as its been reported as sending spam:

 - These recipients of your message have been processed by the mail server:

*** Email address is removed for privacy ***; Failed; 5.3.0 (other or undefined mail system status)

    Remote MTA mail.02.net: network error

 - SMTP protocol diagnostic: 550 mail not accepted from blacklisted IP address, see: http://spamcop.net/bl.shtml [65.20.0.50]

I realise that the server may be off the blacklist in 24 hours or so, but its very inconvenient.  How can I escalate this and what is Microsoft doing to prevent this?

Thanks
