I have 2 computers - one Windows 7 and one running Vista. This morning (9/26/2012) after an Auomatic Critical Update for Windows, both computers ran fine until I opened Windows Live Messenger. When WLM opened virtually all computer resources are taken up by the program on both computers (confirmed through Task Manager - Resources).
I ran two different virus programs and a spyware program with no issues reported. I performed a System Restore on the Windows 7 computer but it had no effect.
I can access my email with no problems through Hotmail.
Any ideas what is going on?
after about 5 seconds of logging in windows live messenger freezes up for a couple of minutes and then goes back to normal and then freezes for a few minutes and then goes back to normal and repeats that procuess. I have already uninstalled reinstalled that didnt work.
edit1 one thing I have noticed which sounds stupid but when the at&t advertisment on the windows live messenger screen gets to a certain spot in the adv it freezes but when another adv is on it doesnt freeze up at all.
Edit2 Okay I can say anytime it gets to the at&t ad it freezes up live messenger but when its any other ad it doesnt freeze anything up. I think its a certain at&t adv that is doing it but its one of those but im not sure i just know it seems to always freeze up on one of the at&t ads
I've rebooted twice. After the Messenger window comes up, the AT&T stay connected ad starts to load at the bottom of the window and then the Messenger window freezes. Checking the Resource Monitor, it then proceeds to eat about 1MB a second from then on, suggesting a serious leak in the inline HTML advertisement.
In the time it took to write this post, Messenger has consumed an extra 50MB of memory, - it's now 'using' 460MB and rising.
