In April, I changed my e-mail address. I updated it with my Microsoft account & even changed my user name from the old e-mail to the new e-mail which required a 1 month wait for security purposes. The 1 month wait was up a few weeks ago but I can't log in to windows live using either the new or old email address. I have followed the steps under "forgot password" and have a new password. I think the problem has to do with the change in email address. I am able to log into my Microsoft account using the new info just fine but not windows live. So far Microsoft support has been of little help.
Any ideas on how to correct this?
Can someone please assist with this again? Thank you!
Hi, my son has bought himself a new Smartphone, to download games it has stated that he needs a Microsoft account for it, this has been set up, then it came back with the age verification challenge, to which I had to create my own Microsoft account. Initial attempts of verification were rejected stating that the parent and child had to be in the same country, after a slight tweak to my account, I found that for some reason his account had been set up automatically as if he was in the US, one step closer to resolving. Attempts to verify his account and numerous password changes (for some reason to his account), it just states that there is an error with the system currently and to try again later!
The phone won't even use my Microsoft account for me to access the basic software updates that the phone needs to operate!
Extremely annoying and am now on the verge of telling him to take the phone back as it's not worth all this hassle!
Can anyone help or have any suggestions other than throwing it through the window?
The error code states:
Our system is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
If the problem persists, please contact customer support.

So, I have quite the story and quite the problem. Microsoft account support is unable to help so you guys are my last hope!
About 6 years ago I created a Microsoft account in order to use Xbox Live. This account was created with a Hotmail address, so for the rest of the post, I will call this account the Hotmail account.
About 4 months ago, I purchased a windows computer, and since I no longer use the Hotmail address as my primary email I created a new Microsoft account with my current Gmail address. I will call this account the Gmail account.
Long story short, I wanted to transfer my Gamertag and Xbox live account from the Hotmail to the Gmail account. However, in trying to do this, the system told me that it was unable to change the email address associated with the Hotmail account because the Gmail address was already associated with a Microsoft account. In an attempt to work around this, I deleted my Gmail account (not my email account but the Microsoft account associated with the Gmail address... I hope you get the picture). I thought that this would alleviate the error message and allow me to easily change the email address associated with the Hotmail account. I thought wrong.
Now, seeing as I deleted the Gmail account, it makes sense that when I go to login.live.com and attempt to log in to the Gmail account, it tells me that there is no Microsoft account associated with that Gmail address. But when I log in with my Hotmail account and attempt to change the alias to my current Gmail address, the system is telling me that it is unable to do so because there is already a Microsoft account associated with that Gmail address... (insert frustration here). Moreover, if I try to create a NEW Microsoft account using the Gmail address, it also tells me that this is impossible because there is a Microsoft account associated with said Gmail address.
It seems I am stuck in some sort of horrible account limbo where there IS, and at the same time, there IS NOT a Microsoft account associated with my Gmail address. To give you a timeframe to reference, I deleted this account about three days ago, so somewhere around April 10th or April 11th of 2014.
If anyone out there has any advice or knowledge on how I can fix this problem, I would be very grateful. Please tell me I'm not the first one to do this! Thank you for your time!
Hello,
I cant close my old Microsoft Hotmail account. I keep getting this message:
You need to cancel any paid services or Microsoft Points account associated with your Microsoft account.
I dont have any of those attached to my account. This account used to be my old xbox live account but hasn't been for awhile which I changed it to another hotmail account.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
I am migrating from one XP machine to a new 8.1 machine. I have installed Live Mail via Essentials using my Microsoft account (administrator). Then set-up both my wife's and my email addresses as POP and it works fine within my account.
Have now set-up a local account for my wife to get into windows 8.1 .... when she opens the Windows Live Mail application there are no email accounts visible.
Question 1 - Can I set-up Live mail once with both accounts so that 2 different 8.1 users can use it or do I have to set-up each POP account in our respective 'views' of the Live Mail application.
Depending on the answer to question one ......
I then need to move all the old Outlook Express emails to the new machine ........ our Outlook Express has one inbox with a mixture of messages from both our email addresses. Some is filed separately in folders but a lot isn't. I am happy about finding the OE6 databases and moving them but ....
Question 2 - If I import into Live mail on the new machine and do this under my Microsoft account (administrator) will I end up with a storage folder of old messages that only I can see ? i.e. when my wife logs in on her local account in 8.1 and opens live mail will she see the storage folder ?
Depending on the answer to question 2 ....
Question 3 - Could I import the old OE6 data twice i.e. once from within my 8.1 account and then again from within my wife's 8.1 account ?
I am finding this migration from XP much harder than envisaged as we only ever used one PC logon before.
Forums are a big help though, thanks
Hi,
I am looking to close my Microsoft account but it keeps giving me the following message:
- You need to cancel any paid services or Microsoft Points account associated with your Microsoft account.
Please can someone help me. I can't see any active subscriptions or anything to be honest and need to close this account.
I used to have Xbox live but that was cancelled a while ago now so can't see why it won't let me close!
Regards
Dean
I do not want my Microsoft Account to appear on my new home PC. I looked up turning Off the Microsoft Account options on-line.
I tried to follow the instructions to change from a Microsoft account to a personal account (in Windows 8.1) but the on screen intrusions did not follow the same process that I experienced when trying to complete the change.
(BTW - Why would Microsoft complicate a system that used to work perfectly well in Windows XP with this new system that you seemingly get trapped inside and can't get out of - all I want every time I want to send an email is to go straight to Outlook!).
I find the Microsoft Mail account almost impossible to use and much prefer Outlook - but it keeps taking me to Microsoft Mail - Very annoying.
How do I turn off Microsoft Account for my home PC (Specifically, I do not want business emails being combined with my home email - I already get far too much of both!).
Thank you.
