Hello,

I have used Outlook and Entourage for many, many years. For the past few years, every few months, Outlook will re-download all email from several of my POP accounts. This is very time consuming to fix because I have many filters and need to manually find the duplicates. Recently, Outlook would repeatedly re-download all email for some of my POP accounts. This resulted in 3, 4 or even 5 duplicates per message. To make matters worse, Outlook does not allow POP email to removed from the server after X number of days. Entourage had that feature and I don't understand why Outlook doesn't have the feature. Certainly I can choose to immediately remove POP email from the server which avoids re-downloading duplicate emails, but recently this strategy caused me to lose emails. My hard disk crashed and my most recent backup was 4 days old. All POP email that was downloaded from the server during those four days was permanently lost! This would not have happened with Entourage because it allowed me to remove email from the server after a certain number of days. I usually picked 30 days, I think. Of course, if I read the POP account from two devices, like a Mac and an iPhone, then I need to keep it on the server.

I understand that IMAP is better. I have 15+ email accounts. Five of them are IMAP and they work great. I use POP for high volume list subscriptions or for accounts I never read from my iPhone.

I'm currently using Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011, version 14.4.1, released April 8, 2014. In the release notes the second fix listed is:

• Improves the ability to recover from certain network errors when you connect by using POP in Outlook for Mac
This update fixes an issue that causes Outlook for Mac to re-download the contents of the inbox for POP accounts for certain connection errors.

Options for using POP email accounts with Outlook:

1. Always keep the email on the server. This needs to be done if I read the email from two devices or if I don't want to risk permanently losing the emails. With this approach, I occasionally remove all the email from the server and this can be very time consuming.

2. Always remove the email on the server. I take this approach for most of my POP accounts. My hard disk is a solid state drive (SDD) and it's crashed twice in the past 2 years. This leads to permanently lose of emails.

3. Somehow get Microsoft to add the "Remove messages after X number of days" feature for POP accounts. I like this option the best, but I don't know how to have a feature request considered. I'll plan to "Send Feedback" from the Help menu on Outlook. I truly wish that I could file an issue report.

If anyone has suggestions or comments, let me know. Thanks!

Hi

I have this very simple applescript that works on my 14.3.9 on OSX10.7.5

tell application "Microsoft Outlook"
    set newMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {subject:"Invoice2358.pdf", content:"Document attached"}
    tell newMessage
        make new attachment with properties {file:"Macintosh HD:Applications:Mac:Adnetv5:PDFs:Invoice2358.pdf"}
    end tell
    open newMessage
end tell

but on the same version of outlook on OSX10.9.2 i get the following error

error "Microsoft Outlook got an error: Can’t make class outgoing message." number -2710 from outgoing message to class

outgoing message still appears to be in the dictionary.  Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Keith

Dears,

I have a big issue in the size of the message/attachment directories and they are consuming a lot of the system drive space and increasing exponentially, which affects the laptop performance dramatically. i tried to move those directories to another drive but i did not find any setting to do so, the i tried to copy the directories to another drive then used a symbolic link but it did not work although the i changed the original directory name to a new name (.old), the new mails still directed to the same old directory named (.old) !!!

Is there any other way to solve that issue? Please need help!

BR,

Waleed.

Hi there,

I am trying to create an internal email for my workplace however really struggling to find out how to embed html code into the email.

When googling this issue, every result says to use the insert tab and 'insert as text' which allows html to embed, however, within my version of outlook I haven't got an insert tab, only attach - and it merely attaches the .html file.

Are there any other ways of embedding html files into an email within this version of Outlook?

Please help!

Please note that I have been using Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac on my MacBook Pro.About 4 days back the program closed down abruptly and ever since I have not been able to start it again. On checking with the data I found out that all the files in the Main Identity have been stored as .olk files. Now I am not able to import these back to Microsoft Outlook again...Can you please help me with this problem?

Outlook, as of 3 days ago, has not been sending emails.

There are no error messages and the emails are being put into the sent items folder but are not being sent.

We found out when people I have emailed called about not getting responses.

We have Outlook on 6 Macs, only two of them are doing this.

I have checked all the settings and passwords and everything is correct. I have been looking at trouble shooting and help files and cannot find any information on this or what to do. I have contacted my web mail server and the problem is not on there end - so they say.

Help!

I'm a new migrator from Windows to Mac.  I'm using Outlook 2011.  All of a sudden, my ability to print email messages just stopped.  I select FILE > PRINT and nothing happens (the PRINT dialogue box no longer comes up).  I've quit and restarted Outlook, restared the machine, etc. and this hasn't helped.  Has anyone else encountered this or have any suggestions?

I'm trying to figure out how to import e-mail addresses, phone numbers, and other contact information from Apple's Contacts app to Outlook for Mac and haven't been able to do so yet. I would be grateful for any useful suggestions.

I recently started using Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011, which I got as part of MS's Office for Mac 2011 suite. The version of Outlook I'm using is 14.3.9. I have been putting my contacts' information into Apple's Contacts app (I am using Contacts v.8.0). It has worked fairly well in the past with Apple's Mail app, but I am no longer using the Mail app. Please note: I do not need to import e-mails form Apple's Mail app to Outlook; since I synched up my Outlook with my Gmail account, I have been able to access my old e-mails, which are on Gmail's server, but most of my contact information is not on the Gmail server but is in the Contacts app on my hard drive. I can export contact info from Contacts as a PDF, but Outlook can't import it in that format, apparently. I can also export contact information from Contacts as (1) something called a Contacts Archive, a file that has an .abbu file extension, or (2) as a big set of vcf cards, in the form of a single file with file extension .vcf.
