I have been using Microsoft Outlook 2011 on my MacBook Pro for a few months now.  I have a handful of email accounts set up on it.  In the beginning, all were POP accounts.  A month or two back, I converted a couple of them along with my Gmail account to IMAP.  The Gmail account is working fine with no errors.  The other two IMAP accounts hosted by GoDaddy work fine about 99% of the time, but I get a handful of -3170 errors at random times daily.  I can't seem to find any sort of pattern or triggers for these errors.  So again, these email addresses work in Outlook almost all the time fine, but a few times daily I'll get these errors, and then it goes back to normal.

So far, the steps I've taken to resolve this are:

I've checked the DNS settings and they're working well.
All of the account information for both email addresses has been checked a number of times and are correct in Outlook.
I've contacted GoDaddy to check the email accounts and servers which checked out OK according to their tech support.
I've contacted Uverse (our ISP) to confirm that our broadband signals are clean which they are.
I've asked Uverse to confirm that the ports required were open and that they weren't closing during the day which they say they are not.
I've replaced the Uverse gateway with a new updated version.
I've deleted both email accounts from Outlook and re-entered the information.
I've uninstalled MS Office 2011 and Re-installed it

After doing all of this, I continue to get this -3170 error a few times daily and it seems like those email accounts are not able to sync, send or receive emails for a few minutes until it comes back up.  During this time, my internet and wifi connection is fine.  In fact, I've set up the same email addresses in Mac Mail and when Outlook has this hiccup, Mac Mail is still connected to these email addresses like normal.

I'm not really sure what my next steps should be to troubleshoot this error, but they're making me crazy.  Below is the setup I'm running.  Thanks in advance for any help.  If I've forgotten any details, feel free to let me know and I'll be glad to provide any other info I can.

OSX Mountain Lion
MS Office for Mac 2011 - Home & Business

For the past few weeks I receive a 'wrong password' message whenever I attempt to sign into Microsoft Outlook. I go through the resetting procedure which allows access on that day but on subsequent days I have to reset the password every time I log in. Can anyone assist as I am on the point of ditching Microsoft and using another e-mail provider?

I am going out of my mind trying to figure this out! I went online to Microsoft Live and created an email account in Outlook. Whenever I try to access this email account it says I do not have an account. I created this account in June (while out of the country) and when I returned I couldn't access the account. Since back I simply created the account again, still couldn't access. I need access to this email account because all of the business cards my new employer sent to me has the email address, which I can not access, on them.

Is there a difference when I sign up using the actual Microsoft Outlook application or going online and simply pulling up Microsoft Live to sign up? I desperately need help in retrieving this email account!

I am continually getting the message Microsoft Outlook (Not responding) across the top of the screen and the screen fades.  It takes ages to come back on or I have to close it down and start again,  Any suggestions what I can do to improve this?  It has only started happening in the last month. I am using Outlook 2010 and it is fairly new (last year) computer.

Hi,

Like others I have found that all my old emails and folders have gone since being forced on to Outlook from Hotmail.

I use Microsoft Outlook (see 3 below) as my main client and have recently set up in hotmail to forward messages.

My old emails and messages were always there even when I set up forwarding but since Hotmail changed to Outlook all messages and folders have gone.

3.You are using an e-mail client or a third party spam filtering software to access your account.
This often happens when using the Pop3 protocol to retrieve your mail and the option “Always leave a copy of the message on the server” is not selected.

Can I get them back?

Hi I am experiencing a similar problem (most recent Outlook with updates installed, and os is 10.8.5).

Every time I open Outlook I almost instantly have a pop up window that says:

"Microsoft Outlook must be closed because an error occurred. Any unsaved work may be lost."

I don't know the error code as one isn't displayed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark
