Video/DVD have different file types and need to be converted to WMV, what software can be used to convert the files?

I had problems opening my dvds into movie maker, so in search for information, I found this Microsoft site with information on how to proceed.

In this discussion there was reference to converting my files using a program called Freemaker video converter, I did that and only one DVD converted properly and now I'm left with no software to do this.  I did try to open DVD in windows media player and hope that would work, but it does not read my disc.  I have windows 8.1 operating system and since this is a new computer I'm hesitant to just start downloading programs/software for this OS without knowing they will work.  

Can you offer a suggestion?

Choosing Mail Aliases while automatically signing in on Microsoft Sites

Hello,


Everytime I log on to my Outlook.com account, and go on some other Microsoft Site, like windows.microsoft.com or some other like these, I get automatically signed in(which is a great feature).

I have created a different alias from my personal one for all my newsletter subscribtions and everything. The problem is : I want to sign in through that account(my work account), and not from my personal home one for all the microsoft sites although I have signed in into outlook.com from my primary alias.

How do I do that?

Contact sync problem

Hello Alden,

I have a problem of syncing contacts from outlook-desktop to outlook.com to windows phone 8(on Nokia Lumia 720). I have followed all instructions on Microsoft site, used hotmail connector to connect my outlook.com account and configured Nokia Lumia 720 with the outlook account which works. However the contact sync appears to be unreliable. My address books on each of the 3 locations differ by about 10 to 15%. I add new contacts on either outlook on desktop or on phone, depending on where i am when i get a new contact. I observe that the sync happens for some contacts and simply does not occur for some others. I have posted this several times on microsoft and nokia forums, but apart from people pointing out to the relevant microsoft material (which i have read and followed), i have not got any response which solved the problem. The only reliable way i have found so far is the dumb way of emailing a vcf card to myself when i create a new contacts (so that i can save it on the other side). For a business user, contact sync is a very important basic need. Hope you can help.

Cannot get my hotmail!

This Microsoft site is even acting up!! How can I get my hotmail to load, it just goes white and hangs up my computer I hate it! This Microsoft site won't let me submit a question either..Whats going on I NEED MY MAIL!!
