I have outlook 2011 for mac. I also have mountain lion. My email works fine, but this error message keep popping up even though I can send mail without a problem.
I've tried changing my smtp settings according to the help I've found here, but I cannot find this particular error code: -8796.
I also have lion on my laptop, with the exact same account set up and am not having any issues on my laptop, just my tower.
What can I do to stop the unknown error alert that keeps popping up every time mail is checked?
Thank you.
After upgrading, getting this:

os x 10.8.2
outlook 2011 14.2.3
have tried pretty much tried every suggestion i've found in this forum, and numerous others.
i've rebuilt indexes a dozen times, triple-checked spotlight config, checked permissions, verified disk, reinstalled office 2011, checked for the MS mdimport plugin, reinstalled mountain lion from scratch (aka. re-partition and install). same result.
last known working config: latest Lion (not Mountain Lion) version, Outlook 2011 14.2.2.
HDD crashed, replaced HDD and OS (to mountain lion), restored MUD from backup and problem has existed since.
my IT dept (who i've found friendly but unable to help) have only indicated that they've "seen a few cases of this problem since ML was released, and that a rebuild from scratch is the only way to fix it".
the problem is, as i've stated, i did the rebuild and that hasn't changed anything, just wasted another day.
must be a bug is what i'm thinking. unless someone far better than me has found the cure?
how do we know if MS is working on a bug fix?
awesome-est part? i partially trashed my exchange inbox mucking around with outlook exports n imports n stuff.
but anyway, i'll be happy just to get my search mojo back. its not till its gone do you realise just how much you use it.
gurus, heeelp!!!!
I installed mountain lion and i am now unable to do a search in emails in outlook 2011. It gives no results. I read other threads which called for re-indexing outlook. i have re-indexed my computer twice to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion OS (10.8.1) and now Office Reminders is repeating past calendar events and updating the calendars. How do I cure this problem?
I'm trying to move my outlook 2011 calendar, contact and mails from one macbook air with snow leopard to a new one with mountain lions. It works fine with calendar and contacts but no way to make the transfer working with email. The export process is
fine but when I try to import in the new pc the process sto immediatly a massage says: process stipped by the user".
I try several times bot: the export and the import with the same result. can someone help me?

After upgrading to mountain lion, outlook 2011 no longer operates properly. i have an exchange server. just trying to read an email is exhausting as the spinning wheel appears for 10 seconds and may or may not load email to read. accessing folders is
almost impossible. i have read and read and found no solution.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, Mac Outlook 2011 becomes unresponsive when performing a search within a folder.
Original Title: outlook 2011 mountain lion
As many have said, Outlook 2011 for Mac runs like a dog after updating to OSX Mountain Lion. After powering up the macbook and launching Outlook, it sets up my identity for fifteen minutes. Then everything runs slow for another half hour or so. It's made Outlook
nearly unusable. No solution I have read/tried works. Apple points at Microsoft. Microsoft points at Apple. That's of no use to the user, guys. We're stuck in the middle with no source of help. Microsoft - you guys really need to address this - even if it
means talking to Apple. Together you need to find a solution and put it out there for us immediately. After upgrading to Mountain Lion I'm having significant response time issues in Outlook 2011.
