I planned to switch from Gmail to Outlook.com. I primarily use Gmail configured in MS Outlook using IMAP.

I was able to sync with MS Outlook 2010: I downloaded Hotmail connector and added Outlook.com account in MS Office 2010. Dragged emails from Gmail IMAP to Outlook.com. (This I did for my friend who was still using MS Outlook 2010).

Unable to do the same with MS Outlook 2013: Since MS Outlook 2013 connects to Outlook.com without Hotmail Connector using ActiveSync mode, I was more than happy to switch away from IMAP. And to my surprize, I cannot do any of the following things

- Cannot drag and drop emails from any other MS Outlook 2013 folder to Outlook.com folders. It says - "Cannot move the items. The folders you are trying to change do not support this operation. Sorry, Exchange ActiveSync doesn't support what you're trying to do".

- Then I took backup of IMAP Inbox as .pst file and tried to restore. It said - "Could not complete the operation because the service provider does not support it"

I can install MS Office 2010 in VMWare and use Hotmail connector to sync my Gmail emails to Outlook.com and then start using MS Outlook 2013 in ActiveSync mode. But my concern is what if in future I have to move contents between different Outlook.com accounts and what if then Hotmail Connector stops working.

Btw, I am habituated moving contents, backup/restore with my office Exchange (2007) email accounts. Unable to do so with Outlook.com is not making me feel confident to move to Outlook.com

So my question is - Should I move to Outlook.com from Gmail IMAP or wait for Outlook.com to mature?
