Installing latest version of WINDOWS LIVE ESSENTIALS resulted in loss of my connection to the internet

The problem is it some how changes the settings on my router which connects our PCs to  the modem. What  Ireally want is to go back to msnmessnger10.  which it will not let me do even after I uninstall it.
