I am using WMM 2012 version 16.4.3528.0332 with Windows 7.

I have been editing a video over the past few days in WMM. I'm using MP4 files. Everything (audio and video) has been working fine, though I have lost all sound a few times in WMM while in the middle of editing functions, but have been able to restore the sound by closing and restarting WMM. Now I have suddenly lost all sound (including original video audio as well as music tracks I have added that previously worked fine) and restarting the program does not restore any sound to the video project.

All other sound on the PC works fine, such as Windows Media Player, ITunes, etc. The disappearance of all audio is only occurring in WMM. The music files I have added to the video project, as well the audio indicators on the original video clips are showing up on the video timeline just as they did when I had full audio on the project. I have checked all audio and music volume controls in the WMM program and on the PC itself and nothing has changed to cause the loss of all project audio.

How do I restore the audio to WMM so I can complete my editing project?

I have completed simple video editing and have watched the final videos, but now, perhaps b/c I moved the files/renamed the folders, the video clips can't be found. Error message states: The file is missing.

I know where to find the clips by the name of them and by going into the search mode on the computer to find them, but this is tedious. Does this program only work when the original video clips are accessible for the computer? I want to be able to burn them to a disk and not worry about the files missing (unplayable).  Will videos not play unless attached to the original files on the computer?

Thanks all!

I've made a video on Movie Maker cutting a 2 hour long video down to 1 hour 40 min.  I had a few random errors during this process saying the file was corrupt during the saving process but after lowering the Kbps down every time I save the video (by lowering, I mean creating a custom setting and constantly testing and changing) until I finally finished saving the video as I was playing a game of SC2 online.  I then later made a edit to this video and was able to re-save it under the same settings which were

1920x1080

5400 kbps (55 would always crash and say the file is corrupt)

29.97 fps

128 44.1 audio

THESE SETTINGS WORKED

Now on to my current problem.  However the story I'm providing above is relevant so anyone answering knows I'm fully able to edit a long video under my current codec setting, wmm version, graphics card drivers and everything else.  Essentially I'm saying I want a real answer to this problem because I know it's working.

My current issue revolves around making a 1 hour 40 min video out of a 3 hour long video.  I spent a few days editing the video and saving the WMM project file.  But not a single setting is working no matter if I lower the resolution to 720p and lower the Kbps to 3500.

I have concluded that WMM is UNABLE to edit longer videos AT ALL.  So of course I would need to cut the original video in half in order to edit it.  But the problem is that I spent so much time investing into editing inside WMM and that WMM makes a unique project type out of the file that can't be imported into anything else, I'm stuck with finishing this video in this software.

Is there anyway to fix this issue I'm having so I can properly get a video from this?  Or is this software that ghetto that it just literally cannot handle professional work?  The windows movie maker error reporting is so lazy and vague, no one has any idea how to troubleshoot this software.  I know what the problem is, I found the flaws in this software.  But why can't the software give me options or work arounds?  Let alone this website?  It took me countless failed searched to even get a option to submit a question here.  There are so many complaints about this software's error messaging with so much generic junior surface level support that it's unacceptable Microsofts name banded it.  Please advise this question to a top level intellectual with real answers or some sort of patch to this software.

When I save my edited project to a movie file, no matter which save setting or aspect ratio, it cuts off the top of the video.

When recorded, the action was close to the top of the frame, so this issue means that on playing the 'movie' you cannot see all the action. It does not have the 'black bars' issue. The video looks and sounds fine when I play it in the project window, even when I expand it, but as soon as I save it as a movie it doesn't show the whole picture. Distressing since I was trusted with taping the event and creating a simple movie from it.

It is almost like it is zoomed in and the full video picture can not be seen, losing some at the top. I recorded some people and their heads were near the top of the frame. Once I save it as a movie, regardless of the ratio setting I select (widescreen or standard), it always 'loses' the top of the video picture so I can see only the lower half of the people's heads and faces in the video. (In the frame on playback, I'd say it is about an inch of loss of the video using the video app to play it)- just enough to lose the crucial part of the what I recorded.

To clarify, playing it back in the project window, everything looks fine (other than being a bit grainy and a little jumpy) but I wasn't expecting miracles :) Just didn't expect to lose part of the original video.

Things I did:

I added music, credits and used video-stabilizer (anti-shake and wobble correction - low).

I've tried removing each of those elements and saving as a movie in a variety of formats, ratios etc. but it has not helped.

I hope I've explained this well enough, but please ask me questions if it doesn't make sense. I am running Windows 8 and Movie Maker from Windows Essentials 2012.

Any and all assistance would be appreciated.

I have combined and edited several videos to a video demo, and would like to identify the timing of particular clips in relation to the source file so that I can replicate the edits I've done without having to go through each of the original video frame-by-frame.   Is it possible to view the position/timing of a video clip in relation to the source file in Movie Maker 2012?

Hi!

I make a film of family home videos with music and at some points I'd like to hear the music, at other points the dialogue of the original video.
But when I change the audio mix settings the software applies it to the whole movie.

Is it possible to have more audio mix settings in a movie? Is it possible to change audio mix settings only at certain parts of my movie?

You know, the aim is: to have the music high at some points (no video sound), and other points to have the music down ( video dialogue can be heard).

Thank you very much for the answer!
