Why log-in to Outlook.com when I am using the Outlook app included with the student discount app from Microsoft?

I opened my desktop Outlook icon and sent a message. In a short moment of time I received an e-mail from Outlook.com Team that I had to log-in to Outlook.com to keep sending e-mails?
