I will not add it to my outlook.com account, and never will.
Will Microsoft and the management of Outlook.com please remove the ridiculous phone request that is preventing me from using an email account I've used for more than 15 years.
If I must I will simply dump that email account and move to another email solution.
I stand firm on this, and I guarantee I am not alone in this opinion.
So please remove this phone requirement pronto.
Is there any way to delete the phone number and put in an email for the time being? I fully plan on switching any and all accounts linked to hotmail to gmail, as this is just plain ridiculous.
Oh, and I'd also like to ask why the billing function is also blocked, due to the "update"? It's completely irrelevant to my backup-contact info.
It should not take a month to process data like this.
I want to continue using outlook (despite the unhelpful changes in format foisted upon those who were happy with hotmail) but I refuse to give any further personal details, otherwise I will have to leave outlook and have all my e-mails redirected.
The account security information for your Microsoft account (*****************@hotmail.com) is scheduled to be removed.
- ************@hotmail.com
- 1-***-***-****
When I logged into my (email#2) it asked me to confirm that I owned the account before bringing me to my inbox.
I had 3 options to verify my account.
1. (email#1) I still use this email
2. my old phone number
3. I don't use these anymore
Because I did not have access to my old phone I could not use that and tried to use email. This of course failed because Hotmail does not allow you to log into 2 emails at the same time. so I clicked option 3 and entered my new phone number. after verifying with my new number I received an email on both my accounts that my account security information is scheduled to be removed, and replaced with the new phone number.
I only want to update the phone number, not remove the email link. There seems to be no option to remove only 1 security link, or add more than 1(or an email for that matter). It is possible this question has been asked before but I did not find it. Several questions about this mention a scam message. How do I know if I have a real one? (This started when I logged in not after clicking on an email)
Please help,
Laser

I've been a hotmail.com user since 1994 and now that things have moved to Outlook.com, there are many changes and some which I really need help on. The most important is of course the obligation of providing a phone number. Currently, I do not have a phone number as I'm working in a remote area in South America. I use outlook for all my correspondence with family and friends and have done so for over 7 years.
All of a sudden, outlook has required us to provide a phone number which is used to relay some password so you can activate an upper level of security. Worst of all, they only give you a 10 day notice. Since noticing this warning, I've been trying to read up on blogs and forums to determine if any other party has had this problem. Although similar topics have been posted, they don't seem to be resolved. I called the microsoft 1-800-642-7676 number and the individual stated that outlook.com does not have live/phone-based customer support and their community forum would be the ONLY way to get this resolved. Most of the other topics are answered by non-microsoft folk who either agree with the question or somehow relate it to other free web-based email programs. I want to keep my email account with microsoft as its been in use for over a decade. I need an official reply.
How do I get around the phone number requirement? I cannot afford to lose this account. Please, if there is anyone out there that actually is employed by Microsoft and has the means to provide me with a step-by-step walkthrough on how to bypass this requirement, I'd be very thankful. I only have 3 days left to get this resolved!
Thanks,
Joyce
