I'm having this same problem of not being able to receive email via Outlook. I've spent considerable time with my ISP and it appears the configurations are correct. I've reviewed the threads and have followed these steps but I'm still getting the 5.7.1
authentication error. My ISP indicates that the 2011 version is not supported by them so I'm stuck. How can I resolve this problem.
The incoming server works fine but the outgoing server does not. I've followed my ISP's instructions including overriding the default port and manually including the specified number. I've triple checked my entries more than I care to admit.
Would appeciate any guidance.
Thanks much. John
I have had problems off and on for months with my ATT email account access from Outlook or Entourage. I switched to Outlook 2011 in April and it works fine but for some reason or other, I will start having to input my password to get mail. The error message
pops up, asks for password, I input it, tell it to save in keychain and then may or may not get my mail. What is frustrating is in account settings the override default port will be unchecked and my password gone. I change the default port back to 995, enter
the password, x out, restart outlook and it may or may not work. If i go back to account settings, 9 times out of 10 the password is there but the override button is NOT checked as I had done prior to closing it. In other words, Outlook will NOT let me save
the override port in inbound mail. I don't understand this at all. And even more strange is the fact that some mornings I turn my laptop on and there is a string of messages in my inbox from the ATT account!! I can then try to send and receive and get the
error message again.
I talked with Microsoft help and they suggested ATT was having serious issues with email and that I just delete the account. I CAN access the ATT mail from the web server.
Outlook works fine with my work exchange account but struggles with my personal att email. I have two of them. ATT and a straight yahoo personal account. It seems it must have something to do with Yahoo???
I am thinking of switching my yahoo accounts to gmail to avoid any further frustration with this override port issue.
any ideas?
Again, there is no rhyme or reason to the mail issue. It works fine about 20% of the time and does not the other 80% and has nothing to do with what I do to the account settings.
Very strange.
Thanks,
f
I receive the following error report when using Windows Live Mail:
Server Error 250
Error ID 0x800CCC 7D
Protocol SMTP
Port 25
<Windows 7>
my outlook is linked to my hotmail account. whenever i try and sync..it just says "authentication failed as outlook does not support any of the available authentication methods"..have tried overriding default port..not helping..HELP!!!
My hotmail is working fine. When i log on it directly, i can send and receive mails without a problem.
Where can I find the settings for opening Hotmail in my client account 'Windows Mail'
I have looked everywhere on the site and it just doesn't give the information as far as I can see.
Other supplier like Gmail and Sky give this information under settings with all the information including port numbers.
Thank you in advance for your advice.
I frequently get "Mail Could Not Be Received At this Time" Dialogs, more or less
as described here.
This happens with multiple accounts of various types, most commonly gmail accounts. I have run keychain first aid with no issues. I tried changing the SMTP port for several accounts from 465 to 587
as
recommended here, without much change.
But the main question I have is
not how to fix it permanently but how to
suppress the dialog.
Is there any way to suppress this error dialog entirely? This happens to me frequently and the most annoying thing is not that Outlook cannot connect (which it does eventually), but that it puts up this error dialog. It makes running Outlook, using automated
reply filters, while unattended, impossible. It would be much better if no dialog were presented and the errors went where other errors go into that little error box.
The dock bouncing on errors is an added irritation, so much so that I already disabled it system-wide due to Outlook. There appears to be no way to turn that off within Outlook.
