Hi Leah_V, I don't understand why you locked my original thread, I was about to reply this morning to the advice given by LindaSView, but by then, you had also responded and locked me out!
Have I offended someone? If so it wasn't intentional.
This morning I followed LindaSView's advice and checked the headers.
I do usually do this with suspect emails, but really have no idea what it is that I'm supposed to be looking for!
Linda's advice pointed me to the things I needed to check!
On the email advising me that my security info was due to be removed, I found the following :-
Line one (it's a long one!) contains amongst the gobbledygook was "(sender IP is 65.54.190.32)", and lines 4 and 5 show:- X-AUTH-Result: PASS
X-SID-Result: PASS.
The other 17 offering me a security code have a variety of senders IP's, which I've not yet checked out, but lines 4 and 5 in the ones I've looked at show the same info as mentioned above.
It would seem that the emails are in fact from MS.
This leads me to query just why these emails offering security codes were being sent to the subject email address when I had clearly specified a different address for such communication. To wit: the "Security info" which MS threatened was "Sheduled to be removed" and which I discovered was infact listed.
Having just looked at this page and satisfied myself that all the detail there was in fact correct (even if it was being ignored by MS!) I then found that there was no obvious way to "Save and Exit" from the page, or indeed just to confirm that no change was required....so I just closed the tab, not the best way to exit!
That done.....bearing in mind I had in fact done nothing, just had a quick "Look-see", behold, I received an email to my designated address thanking me for verifying my hotmail address and offering me yet another security code...not that I had requested one!
Can someone explain to me the logic of this please, as it totally escapes me!
Sorry to ramble on I'm just gratful that I seem to have found someone who knows the system!
I've been told by Adobe that their system has been hacked and my details may have been stolen.
Since then I've had 17 emails from MS giving me a security code, it seems someone is trying to change my password.
I changed it as soon as I realised, but the security codes didn't stop immediately, last one dated 8 Oct. so they might still be trying.
Today I received a slightly different email from MS, saying:-
"The account security information for your Microsoft account is scheduled to be removed.
If you didn't make this request, then someone else may have your password. We'd like to help you get your account back. Please go to the following website to change your password and restore your account security information:
(Here was a link to follow, but it seems to lead to my sign in page so I've not posted it!)
Thanks,
The Microsoft account team"
I'm worried that this might not be from Microsoft, can someone help me please?
I have also tried clicking "I can't verify my account" to fill out the small question sheet, however apparently I could not provide enough information to prove myself to get the security code.
Hotmail account blocked. Microsoft requires telphone nos or e-mail to issue security code.
Select e-mail, ignore default e-mail, enter different e-mail account.
Microsoft sends code to e-mail address. Log out of Hotmail account, login to Outlook account to get code from e-mail.
Logout of Outlook , log into Hotmail account, (blocked), enter code, error message says code is invaild.
As I can't log into Hotmail and Outlook at the same time how do I get a valid secuirty code ?
Thanks.
