I convinced a lot of people of the advantage of the new system.
And personally I switched to Surface RT and a Windows Phone just recently.
But the new Skydrive implementation in Windows 8.1, where having to log in with a Microsoft account to enable Skydrive, destroyed a lot. And I start to regret having switched. I even didn't update on all PCs, just because of that.
I have no problem using my MS account on some systems, e.g. my Surface Tablet.
But on some systems it's just not possible.
Here are some reasons:
1) at home I'm not able to log in to my NAS anymore, as it doesn't allow longer usernames (which would be necessary when using my email address as the username)
2) in my company we are using local accounts (no domain accounts) on all our PCs in the network. And these accounts are installed on all our servers etc.
But as I understand only domain accounts can be connected with a Microsoft account.
Some time ago I established the usage of Skydrive especially in combination with OneNote in my company. But with Windows 8.1 this isn't really possible anymore, thus we will probably shift to Evernote and another cloud solution.
The alternative use of Skydrive via web browser is ridiculous and useless.
Just give us back the option to sign in to Skydrive separately, maybe using the already existing option in the PC settings.
It seems that SkyDrive is built-in and not an app in Windows 8.1.
I have single MS Account, and I use it on this Windows 8.1 Machine for my default login - using the same e-mail address associated with the SkyDrive Account.
On this 8.1 PC though, I have a second account, and I would like to connect to the SAME SkyDrive Account. When I get the verification code, it does not allow access as the account is already "assigned on this computer".
Any way to do this?
Thank you,
Greg
When I go to my Skydrive I do not see any of my files or folders.
Across the top of Skydrive, where the files and folders should be a message is displayed -Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again. If you keep seeing this message, go to Service status to check if there's a problem with SkyDrive-
I check the Service Status and it tells me that everything is OK
When I try to create a new document of any type I get a similar message... -Sorry, Something went wrong Try again-
Any Idea whats up...
NOTE: For version I put Widows 8.1 but its the same for XP, 7, 8 ,8.1
Okay, I've read the posts etc but wish to commence my very own question. Skydrive has sync'd with my PC (Windows 7) for the very first time a few weeks ago. I use it daily but it is a frustration that the smallest change e.g. text in a word document takes far too long to look for changes & sync and takes up massive processing time leading to system slowdown. This is also the issue on PC reboot, e.g. when Skydrive is looking for changes.
What gives me the opinion that sync takes far too long......well my experience with other competitor storage programs is better. I am a windows phone user, PC and Laptop and would very much like to stick with Skydrive but MS, please can you resolve the issue that when SD is looking for changes that it intuitively knows where to look and sync faster.
Please advise.
I have recently upgraded to 8.1, and now find that I can't access my skydrive locally without merging my domain account with my Microsoft account. I really liked the desktop app in 8 which allowed me to log into Skydrive locally on my domain joined PC. Now I'm trying to get my files, and it says I must merge my personal Skydrive to my work Domain account to still use local access. I can still use the web app, but it definitely not near as easy to use, and doesn't allow off-line access. Seems like a down grade in 8.1 for Skydrive. Is there a fix to still be able to access Skydrive locally with your personal MS account on a Domain joined machine?
Thx,
Gilbert
