performance improve slow system; can’t attach files

For the last week or so, I can't attach any files, pictures, etc to any emails. I get an error that there is a problem uploading the file. This occurs whether I'm using Firefox, Chrome or IE8. I am using Outlook as my email program. I have checked and added all Windows updates.
