While using Outlook 2011 for Mac, I've recently received several SPAM messages with attached files containing Windows trojans or other malware.  Once these messages arrive in my inbox, I see a warning from Sophos Antivirus and Outlook freezes.  If I attempt to select the message, it highlights, but no action is possible.  If I right click and select "delete" the highlighting jumps to a random message while the SPAM message remains in the inbox.

While this is happening, the Sophos quarantine manager attempts to delete the threat, but Outlook keeps downloading new copies to the cache.  The only escape requires force-quitting Outlook.  If I then restart Outlook, the problem resumes.

If I access the Exchange server using Outlook Web Access, I am unable to delete the SPAM message, or any other message.  I just get an error stating that there's a server configuration problem.

The only way I can recover from this situation is to log on to a Windows 7 box, open Outlook 2010 and delete the message.  Outlook on Windows has no problem deleting the message.  I can then run Sophos antivirus to clear the cached malware attachment.

All the malware has been Windows oriented, so there's no threat to my Mac, but losing the use of Outlook while being unable to delete a SPAM message is more than a little disturbing.

There does not seem to be any preference I can set to keep Outlook from automatically downloading attachments.

I'm running OS X 10.6.8, Sophos 8.0.5c and up to date versions all the Office 2011 products.

I use Windows Live Mail.  I keep blocking senders and their domains, but I continue to get a ton of spam, some of which I am sure is from senders I've blocked.  What gives??
this morning I received an email from "The Windows Live Team", it asked me to fill some information and reply back or else my mail will be deleted... so is this mail a spam or should I really fill it :S???
I block all junk every time I check mail and sometimes have ovet 80 junk mails.  I also keep my spam and trash empty.
My e-mail acct is being used to spam some work at home offer to all my contacts.  What can be done about this?
can't find anything (malware, spyware etch) using kaspersky, mcAffe or norton.

OH, I JUST READ ON HERE WHERE THOUSANDS OF HOTMAIL USERS ARE RECEIVING MILLIONS OF SPAM/JUNK EMAILS, JUST AS I AM.  WHEN I CLICKED ON A PAGE THAT SAID, "WHAT TO DO ABOUT SPAM/JUNK MAIL", THE BLANK PAGE CAME UP SAYING IE COULD NOT FIND THE PAGE.  MAJOR BUMMER MSN.  SEEMS SOMEONE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE CUTE TO GET INTO MSN'S DATABASE AND SEND OUR HOTMAIL ADDRESSES TO LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF SPAM SITES.  SO IT SEEMS WE HAVE NO RECOURSE AT ALL EXCEPT TO CLOSE OUR HOTMAIL ACCTS.  I AM USING ALL CAPS BECAUSE I AM SLIGHTLY VISUALLY IMPAIRED AND I CAN'T SEE THE TINY PRINT ON HERE IF IT IS IN LOWER CASE.  THAT'S THE ONLY REASON-I AM NOT YELLING, BUT I, ALONG WITH MYRIADS OF OTHERS, AM FED UP WITH THE SPAM/JUNK.  IS THERE NO HELP FOR US SHORT OF SCUTTLING OUR HOTMAIL ACCOUNTS?

PS.  I AM RUNNING WINDOWS XP SP3, IE8 OPTIMIZED FOR YAHOO

Today I was prompted to change my password, thereafter I logged out. When I logged in after 3 hours there were spam mails that had gone from my id to all my contacts! How can this be stopped?
