I had a Windows Essentials update on Friday, 21/2/2014, since then I can't success my mails in storage folders, over 1000+ mails dating back over 10 years, I can see the folder, see the message header, but can't access the body of the message, when I click on it I get the following pop up box

"A problem occurred while trying to open this message"

"A problem has occurred, please try again"

My inbox is OK, as is my sent items folder, just the storage folders.

I'm running Win 8

Please help!

thanks

Nick

1. My emails in storage folders had the correct headers, dates, sender etc but the contents of all emails in some folders (involving several thousand emails) all had the same content, ie not the content relating to the headers.  I sought advice from this website.  I was advised to rebuild my message store which I did but this did not repair the problem.  Having reported back I stopped getting any response from this forum.
2. I took out a subscription to the Microsoft Answers Desk.  They searched for viruses (none), checked that various potentially vulnerable applications had the latest updates (they did), took over desktop operation and looked in my folders but decided it was a corrupt folder and out of their scope.
3. Assuming that was the end of it and the email was lost and my subscription to Windows Answer Desk to be wasted I mentioned it to my brother, a recently retired Senior Software Engineer for the Zurich Stock Exchange.  He had a look a the folder, diagnosed the problem within an hour and wrote a script which fixed my email.
4. The problem is a bug in WLM.
5. Microsoft Answers Desk were unable to deal with this reported bug and said the only means of letting Microsoft know about a Microsoft bug is via this forum.
6. I am uncomfortable publishing a bug on a website in case it's exploitable in the wrong hands.
7. My brother is happy to explain the problem and solution (though having gone to the trouble of diagnosing it he's not inclined to go to some trouble to report a Microsoft problem).
8. Please provide a means by which he can privately explain the issue.
In the past several days, my WLM app has gone haywire. The problems first arose when I powered up my desktop at the beginning of the day. I noticed that all of my storage folders were missing. After uninstalling/resinstalling WLM, I imported the storage folders. Today, I note that I do not have an Inbox on the left side of the WLM homepage and all of the messages in the storage folders read "Message Cannot Be Found". Can anyone help me sort this out?

Can anyone help me retrieve my “suddenly-for-no-friggin’-reason” vanished storage folders in WLM? There is a way to do it, but it is not intuitive. MS apparently does not want to make it easy. I know how to use the “import” function, but I can only import the empty file folders. The emails contained therein remain somewhere on my C drive. I had this problem a few months ago and the MS tech fixed it for me in just a few minutes. I called MS support yesterday and they told me that they no longer offer telephone support for WLM despite the fact that I purchased a year’s support plan at that time. The email file names are a mix of letters and numbers so unless you know where and what to look for, it’s impossible to find them. I uninstalled/reinstalled WLM and reestablished the sync with my primary email service so I just need to recover my storage files and saved emails. Any help out there?

+Several days ago when trying to check emails I got a message that Windows couldn't open for some reason ( I really didn't pay enough attention to the message because it gave me an option to use "archived") .  Now I receive messages but all my storage folders are empty and any specific storage folder I had created are no longer there.  I know this is not much info but can anyone help?
DO WE REALLY NEED ALL these "All"s under each/every Account/et al.????? WOW - trying to MOVE a simple email down to Local Folders is like scrolling in **** + all these alls makes each trip a looong way, often "blind" to where you're going, then ..... zipping right past your goal. Even a businessman like could appreciate the simplicity of just having QUICK VIEWS Unread .. All ... All .... All .... etc. THEN OUTBOX LOCAL FOLDERS etc. Some ideas for the geniuses that complied this maze - a step backwards from Outlook Express: 1. Ability to HIDE Account #1, Account #1 and especially Storage Folders ... with all it's alls (really? someone got paid for this one?) 2. This one may be too difficult: Combine ALL Accounts Storage "folders" into Quick Views ... I might be asking for a barrel of monkeys, I realize 3. Perhaps there's a layout that could be created (in addition to the above) more similar to an ORGANIZATION CHART instead of this loooong list type presentation. Some of us have many categories, under which are many others - for business et al. Potential Respondents: IF you don't understand the wishes, please don't respond

In my Folder Pane (I think that's what it is called - the strip down the left!) in Windows Live Mail I have:

1. Quick Views

2. Five different account names

3. Outbox

4. Storage Folders

All I want to do is to move the Storage Folders up to appear immediately below Quick Views.

I thought I had worked out how to do this, by right clicking, then choosing 'move up'. Aren't I clever I thought, only to find that next time I opened Live Mail, everything was back where it started!!

Not so clever after all.........

Can anyone tell me how to make the items stay in the order that I put them.

I use Windows Live mail to read and store emails from a number of addresses and checked them this morning with no problems, when I went to check them this evening everything has disappeared.

I have no storage folders and no emails at all, how can I get them back?

and install another email program.   I have

windows 7 home premium 64 bit computer and would like to know what allright with this system ?

My live mail crashed, got it somewhat repaired via Microsoft but now I have excessive storage folders and recovered items...it's a terrible mess.

A lot of the messages recovered and in the storage folders  are not what they should be.  ( various problems with emails that cannot be  read, some messages from many different people contain  the SAME message from one individual and of course have NOTHING to do with the message I click on, etc.

I would prefer to get this Live mail fixed but not sure it can be done.

As of now after the Microsoft fix I'm still getting windows popping up saying that Live mail has stopped working,  recovering unused disk space, etc. etc.

Seems  problems still exist and am afraid  I may very well lose what little bit of reliable email messages I have left  in live mail 2011.

Have tried the fix under programs etc. also to no avail.  it seems, this is very frustrating and just as soon be rid of it  unless someone can guide me to a SURE fix once and for all.

Also, is there any sure way to recapture the emails that are not reading properly or are they gone forever ?

Thanks for any advice.
