The advice given by Microsoft does not work and is totally useless. I have been trying to run Microsoft AutoUpdate to install the automatically downloaded update to 14.2.4 for my Office for Mac on my Mac-Book Air 2011 running OS.X Mountain Lion. My Office programs latest updates are 14.2.3.
When you try to run AutoUpdate Installer it wants me to Quit Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServices Agent so I followed the advice given on the Answers on Office for Mac pages about using Activity Monitor but when I follow the resolution using the Activity Monitor as soon as the applications are given the instruction to Quit or Force Quit they just start up again so there is no way of installing the update.

Is there any other way of switching them off, e.g. at StartUp so the Updates can be installed?

So currently I can not install any updates to the Office software including ones which involve Security issues. This is not good enough. Please advise solution?

Why have Microsoft not identified and resolved this issue already? It must affect more than just my Mac.
When I go to contacts all I get is a page to delete groups.  I do not find a way to work with my groups or manage them.  I feel like a new update has taken away this or that I do not have all that I need on my computer.  I am stumped.  What should I do?
WHY WOULD DOWNLOADING OFFICE:mac update 14.2.3 cause this problem? All I have now is a BLANK OUTLOOK program. I put in my mail settings & when I try to use Outlook to send mail it says' Outlook cannot connect to the server' & also says 'Authentication failed because Outlook doesn't support any of the available authentication methods'. I don't have the outlook offline checked- my Safari  e-mail works fine but I want to use my Outlook exclusively. How do I get all my outlook information back & how can I get my outlook to go online to send & receive e-mails?

Since updating Outlook 2011 for Mac to version 14.2.3 opening Task attachments from OWA is not working any longer. Some of our users use OWA to attach a PDF and an OWA Task. Since the update neither attachment is available in Outlook 2011. Remove the Task attachment and the PDF is fine. But if the Task attachment is there then the Task attachment does not display and the PDF attachment is grayed out. Users of Outlook for Mac 2011 version 14.1.4 and earlier have no problem with the attachments. I believe this problem started with the 14.2.2 update and I have reproduced it on Mac OSX 10.6.x, 10.7.x and 10.8.x. Any idea's? Thanks.

After update on Mountain Lion there is a problem with displaying attendees' response icons (Accepted, Declined, Tentative) in the list of attendees. Half of an icon is overlapped with calendar view. Calendar view horizontal scrolling sometimes breaks vertical lines.

Hi, I have just tried to open not only Outlook but also Word and all I get is a message telling me that  "Check with the developer to make sure Microsoft Outlook works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."  Does anyone any ideas please ?  This has only happened since I updated to OS 10.8.1 ?

I have the latest update for Office too.

Any ideas please.

outlook 2011 opens - encounters an error and shuts down - with japanese proofing error
I just went through the process of uninstalling Microsoft office 2011 and reinstalling 2011 and the update of 14.2.3 (I had the identity issue) -

Outlook now opens but then shuts down saying it is encountering an error.  The error has something to do with Japanese Proofing Error.

How do I correct this?

Thanks,
Donna
