Movie Maker preview is black

Movie Maker was working Okay until I installed Windows updates. Now the preview is black. Someone said to check the video file types, but the preview for pictures is black also so I don't think it is about the video file type.

I have MM 2012, Windows 7 64bit. I ran FixIt and it didn't find a problem. I don't really understand Codecs so I don't know how to check that. Please let me know what I should try. Thanks.

upload video to skydrive – will skydrive pre-convert?

I understand that skydrive will only support certain Video file types for streaming.  However, my question is will Skydrive or some other plug-in (e.g., windows live photo gallery upload to skydrive) do an automatic pre-convert while uploading to skydrive so that the file loaded is in the proper format for streaming.

The goal is to have a seamless and trouble free process whereby I can merely upload videos to skydrive and not worry about the raw video file format.  I do NOT want to have to add another step to convert the file first.  That I already know how to do.
