Hi,
I've a sony DV PC9e and Movie maker will import live video captured from the camera.
Why then will the same video stream from the same camera not show in the webcam window?
Message is:-
Sorry MM can't record audio or video from the selected device. Make sure that the device is installed properly and not in current use by another program, then try again.
All advice gratefully received.
Whenever I import a video into Movie Maker, the audio plays but the preview screen is black. I have tried updating my video card drivers, and they're all up to date. I installed the latest version of Movie Maker which is the 2012 version. Looking at some previous discussions- http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/moviemaker-program/movie-maker-2012-black-screen-on-playback/b653d015-e0d4-4426-bd50-471b71abdad4 , I tried installing the 2011 version but it's still the same. I have been facing this problem for quite some time. Anyone can help me?

Hello. In the older version of Movie Maker, you can have it go through a video and automatically create clips. I can't seem to find out how to do this in the newer version. Creating them manually is going to be very time consuming. Does the new version have this functionality?

So I am trying to import a video to the timeline. A video that was recorded by DxTory, a DirectX video game recorder. It records in the .avi format in the DxTory Codec, which is a bit more complex than the regular camcorder video editors and stuff. Generally the import works, but there is not a 100% chance of this working every time and that's a problem.
So the video that I am trying to get in my timeline is a 27 minute video that is 169 GB large. Yes, they are quite large files as DxTory does not encode the video when recording because there's not enough time to do so.
Is there something I can do to get this to go in my timeline or will I have to go out to buy Adobe?
I already bought from Sony, and probably will never buy from them again. (Movie Studio 13)
Yesterday, while editing a video, my system got overheated and shut down.. When restarting the laptop, I noticed my main system fan had stopped spinning. And, I had lost an hour of editing. I re-edited my video, but just after saving (luckily!!) it shut down again due to overheating. But now, everytime I try saving the project as a real movie, it shuts down at about 80%, again due to overheating.
I copied the wlmp. File and all other used files to an USB stick, to save it on my sisters' laptop. But is doesnt't work:((
all I get is black video, no music attatched and such:(( also with yellow triangles in it...
I know I need to get my computer fixed, but this is very important!!:(
how can I solve this??

I add the video and it plays fine.
But when I make any cuts the video cuts and plays from the approapriate spot but the audio does its own thinking, usually starts from the beginning or continues to play the part that I just split the video to. They dont seem sync. It seems that when I
cut/split video, the audio is not attached to it.
What do I do? Plz help. And please explain everything in simple language, I dont get this fancy techy stuff. Thanks

I have just completed a Movie Maker video.
I have used video files created from a screen capture application,. There a couple of small sections where I taken screenshots to "pause" the video and have added narration in Movie Maker.
However in these sections a clip art style image of an audio note and speaker has appeared as below - is there a way to get rid of it?
Image 1 - no narration, no clip art style image
Image 2 - where the video has added narration and the clip art image
My problem is that when I hit play for a video that I made in Movie maker the screen is completely black. However, there is sound. And I know it's a video issue because the video does open up and is editable in Lightworks. It's just Movie Maker which is what I want to use. I've searched through all of the topics, tried to update drivers, etc. but nothing is working and this is really bugging me. I have the problem with videos if they are mp4, avid and even wmv. Oh and the same videos that won't show up to be edited in WMM I can see them fine in Windows Media Player.
I would definitely appreciate any help. I have Windows 7 64bit
i downloaded windows movie maker yesterday and here's the issue: i can import wmv files (i converted all my video files to wmv via freemake which i thought would be fairly reliable; i even converted all the ones that are already wmv into new wmv files via freemake, which is very telling of my level of desperation) into the movie maker, i can play them (there's audio AND video) in the 'collection' box directly, but once i drag it into the timeline to be edited and i play the video in the timeline, there is NO video. i can still hear the audio part but the video itself blacks out, which is very puzzling because it plays just fine when i'm not trying to edit it. i hope i make sense...
my laptop is barely two months old and i use windows 8.1. i downloaded the maker from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/products/features/movie-maker yesterday.
would really, REALLY appreciate help; many thanks in advance!
