A week or so ago I started a creating a video with my own images and videos which I had just downloaded from my camera.  I had no problems until I tried to edit one of the videos and the whole screen went funky (it made no sense so doesn't pay to try to describe it).  I stopped working on the video and cleared and cleaned my PC.  I went back and all was well until I tried to edit the same video.  But this time, as my cursor moved across the screen, all the photos and images disappeared.  Odd?  I'll say.

So, I cleaned my computer again in all the ways I know to do and even used some new recommended cleaners.  Today, when I went back into the project I see no images or videos but a blank work area asking me to browse for images and vids.    Stranger still, the count shows the video to be 18+ minutes in length and the item count in the left corner is still at 182 (see attached screen shot),  When I hit play, it even begins to play, and I see the first two  title screens, and initially I even saw a photo (probably after I tried to re-insert the photos, although they never did show up).  Then it is just blackness.

I did a 'repair' Windows Essentials, too.  Oh, and I did not move any of the images or vids from the original files.  I've done quite a few videos using MM.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi,

I am using WLMM to create video (around 2 minutes long) and it does not playback the video smoothly or just stops during a playback which is making it very difficult to edit.

I have looked at the driver using the dxdiag command that was suggested in other posts similar to this one.

Main driver: igdum64.dll,I gd,10umd64.dll,igd10um (can't read rest of driver)
Version: 8.15.10.2712
Date: 27/03/2012
Whql logo'd: yes
DDI version: 11
Driver model: wddm1.1

I am using WLMM version 2011 (build 15.4.3508.1109)

Majority of the video is from sony handycam and are .mpg files.  Also have some footage from ipad which is .mov file, there is no difference in functionality of either type of file, both get 'stuck'.

Using a Lenovo Z580 laptop which has windows 7.

I will try the window fix-it suggested in the other similar threads however I am worried that your link took me to 'PC utility kit' by red dog media and that this is a virus?

I would be grateful for suggestions in how to solve the problem of the choppy playback as I really want to finish creating the movie.
Thanks
Claire

I take videos on my canon 3400, use WLMM to edit, convert to .mov,  so I can then put them on youtube.
Now suddenly when I do that the video is glitchy-like a tracking problem.   This has never happened
before. video looks fine on camera replay and WLMM. Only messes up on I have Windows 7 on an HP
desktop if that helps.

Hello,
I am currently trying to use wmm from windows essentials. Seems pretty easy, but it would be nice if there were a video that showed you how to make a video from start to finish. I am going to train total newbies, so I want a simple program. and right now I am finding by hunt and peck my way, but I am sure there is a smoother, and more efficient, and simpler way to make a video.

Millard

I have tried every setting available and even tried creating my own, but every time I edit a video and try to save it, it doubles (at the very least) in size.  I have adjusted the preferences to match the video size and bps etc etc. as well as the audio when I'm saving it, but a 125mg video will save at well over 250, often a lot more.  Why, especially when I have edited segments OUT of it?  I want to burn a DVD from  the videos I'm working on. I've tried that setting, as well as (as I said), using custom settings.  I've tried save for computer, DVD and every single other one on the list, but they ALL wind up creating double sized files instead of compressing them.  Heck, I'd be happy if they saved exactly the same, except for the editing out, which should lower the file size in and of itself.

I would like to add some powerpoint slides into my video without changing the video.
So I would continue talking, to goes to slide, comes back to me, etc.
Is this possible in Movie Maker?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi, I've shot a dance video on my phone, in portrait, long and thin. but when I upload it to windows movie maker it automatically changes it to fit the landscape square shape, so squashes my video into the square and makes the dancer look completely out of proportion, short, wide, horrible! I've been fiddling for hours to try and get it to be in windows movie maker kept as a portrait video but can't find a way. Help?
Thanks
I've never had a problem with videos before untill I got a new camera. I make YouTube videos so I got a new hd camera (1080p) I was editing the clips, and splitting them. When I watch it back, it's all fine. After I save the video then watch it, the parts I have split, either split to late or too early and mucks up the whole video. Please can someone help me, it's very frustrating!
