I have Windows Essentials on the hard drive, but it doesn't operate because Norton is opperating currently.  How do I safely and simultaneously remove Nortton and allow Windows Essentials to become functional?
I am using Windows 7.  The Windows Essentials download set up leads successfully to the install page.  The install is instantaneous and "successful."  First issue:  there is no Photo Gallery to be found anywhere on my computer.  Second Issue:  When I try to open Windows Live Mail, the window says the WLDCORE.dll is missing.  I have done the following from instructions I found in the Community:

1. Perform Windows Update
2. Uninstall Essentials by following the steps within this
link.

3. Delete the following files for a clean installation:

    For 32 bit

    C:\Program Files\Windows Live

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live

    For 64 bit

    C:\Program Files(x86)\Windows Live

    C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Windows Live

4. Disable firewall (Note that disabling the firewall makes your computer prone to virus attack. We suggest that you only visit the websites below and enable your firewall after installation is done).

5. Reset browser to factory settings.

6. Reinstall Windows Essentials:

Windows Essentials 2012 (for Windows 7 and Windows 8)

Windows Essentials 2011 (for Windows Vista and Windows 7)

Can anyone offer any additional assistance with this matter?

I just installed Windows 8.1 64-bit. This is weird because I've used Win 8.1 before and don't remember ever having to give my webcam permissions to specific apps.

However, when I launch Windows Essentials - Movie Maker, I see my webcam in the OPTIONS window, but no stream, just a black window.

I had the same issue with Skype.

I found a support article showing how to get to the webcam permissions screen (in Metro: win+c, type webcam, click on webcam privacy settings. I enables Skype and all is well in Skype.

Essentials Movie Maker is not listed and there is not way to "search for other apps" or the like.

I just started using Movie Maker on my Win 7 laptop and it just worked, even with the same USB webcam and the built in webcam.

Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.

Recently, Windows Essentials was updated.  Windows Photo Gallery 2012 now shows a build number of 16.4.3528.331.

How is that build version different from the previous version?

What bugs were fixed?

What new features are there?

What previous features were removed?

What are the impacts on existing cataloged media files and metadata?

Would it be possible to answer each one of these questions?

Thanks

Whenever I start the computer windows automatically downloads a windows essential and it take about 5 to 10 minutes of "don't turn your computer off" while downloading.  Then it say unable to download windows essentials "don't turn your computer off" again whil it uninstalls what it just put on there tyimg up my computer for another 5 to 10 minutes.  I'm getting to hate windows...  I have the box checked do not install any updates unless I ok it.  It still does it any way.  What can I do,  I'm very frustrated and anti windows at this time.  The computer is almost two months old (Dell AMD A8) with windows 8.1.  Bill Murphy *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

I found out that windows 8 comes with Windows Defender. OK, that's a given. I downloaded Windows Essentials 2012 so I can get the Movie Maker. If I uninstall the Windows Essentials 2012, while doing this, will I also be deleting the OneDrive that holds all my stuff I put into it? And, by uninstalling W.E. 2012, will my Windows Defender stay in place protecting my computer? I get a lot of mixed answer's elsewhere and need a definitive answer. Thank you.
