Windows live mail is BLANK.  NO emails, no sent items, no received items.  Where are they??  I have been using Windows live since Century link stopped using MSN.  I NEED solution to actually get emails and likewise, to send them.  The address book is vacated too?? Is there a real update that fixes this?  If so, where do I look for it?

I have Windows Vista 32-Home premium/ IE 9/ and Windows mail has worked well for quite a while.  I need it to work again.

Windows live messenger likewise is blank...  Do I need to erase this defunct version and reload?  Please advise.

no quiero skype y no me deja abrir el que tengo que es windows live messenger. ¿ que hago ? ¿tiene solucion ?
I have just re installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and decided to install Essentials to access my .outlook and .live mail accounts.

The problem is now every time I boot the laptop Messenger loads when Windows opens and the Windows Live Messenger screen appears. I check the appropriate boxes to sign in every time and whatnot and click sign in. A pop up window appears notifying me of a new version that must be installed to continue. Okay.

Going through the motions, Download the app. Sign in. Nope. Follow the link. Skype download page. I actually re install Skype.

Next boot same cycle except I skip downloading Skype. I try adjusting the settings, yes. That's it... Nope. Same cyclic behavior. Every time.

I already had Skype installed before the Windows re install but Microsoft Support had a time re installing it. There were other installation issues but Microsoft got them installed as well.

Since I already had a Skype account I didn't want to merge it with my .live account or Facebook. I would rather choose to have a separate Skype account for that. Is that the issue and that's not possible or do I need to delete a file? What solution is there to the mundane circles? And I'm not talking Google!

Hi. I live in Mainland China and according to microsoft email notifications, I should still be able to use windows live messenger despite the whole world having to upgrade to skype. However, as from this morning, I cant sign in and my skype is working just fine. Some help or clarifications anyone?????

In order to save all preferences from different applications i copied "appdata" folder to the new account directory.

But, "Windows Live Mail" & "Windows Live Messenger" stopped working. At Sign in, it goes to "Loading Contacts" and error comes.

i tried to do windows update but there is only windows bing update available.

I still have the old Windows Live Messenger.  I never upgraded to Windows Essentials.  If we are being forced to have Skype, then how come Windows Live Messenger still allows me to sign in even though my email account now says Outlook instead of Hotmail?   I have no need for IM, text messages, contacts, photo gallery, video, games, emoticons, or any social media such as Facebook.  I don't even have a cell phone.  That's all I want is to be able to send/receive a plain old fashioned email.  Therefore, can I keep the plain old Windows Live Messenger by not manually upgrading to Skype, or will it eventually automatically upgrade to Skype the same way Hotmail automatically became Outlook?  Please help - I'm 68 years old, so I'm not part of the computer generation.  I never understood why I needed the old Windows Live Messenger to begin with - why being connected to the internet and having a my.msn.com homepage wasn't enough in order for me to go to other websites.

Heather,

In November of 2012, it was announced that it would retire in the middle of March. Recently, I have received e-mails telling me to "upgrade" to skype by today. However, when does Microsoft actually plan to make Windows Live Messenger no longer functional outside of China?
I was at a site recently and they were offering a free download for windows phone. It's called windows live messenger. Why isn't windows offering this tool?
I have some old status messages that i have on my windows live mesesnger that i want to delete, but for some reason, when i click on the gear button, it turns up only one option and i cant delete the message.
