i have windows live movie maker it use to work fine until i had a new video card installed its an NVIDIA geforce gt420 now movie maker says my card does not meet the required specs all the specs are way higher then what movie maker is asking for i contacted the card company they said the same thing i have windows 7 64 bit operating system what can i do to fix this.
I don't know about everyone else but I use WMM a lot. I can't afford any of the professional programs like Vegas but i'm eventually gonna buy it if Microsoft doesn't make new updates. Although the interface is easy to use, there are no extra features like adding sound effects or visual effects. For example, one of the projects i'm working on has a part where a house catches on fire. But there's no option to add something like that in movie maker. There was another part where I had to spend hours trying to find a sound effect that I needed. Why doesn't windows make a list of special effects that users can use. I understand that Microsoft wants to keep it simple but add some more features. We pay $150 for windows anyway. Either add another program that can make effects or add more features.

I have dell 5520 with windows 7-64 bit. when I try to put some image or video on windows movie maker to make videos the preview pane is showing black.

please help me.

Hi. I have a problem with windows live movie maker 2011 and my computer is windows 7. For a very long time the movie maker have worked very well but lately when I import videos to make movies out of them, I see th visual but no voice ( not for all videos just for some of them). I've thought that maybe it is because of the video when I first observed this problem, but then I've tried a lot more and this problem seems to be increasing. I've read some comments about it, they say it is because of the codecs of video's own and I should delete those codecs. But I don't know how to do that because they were talking about movie maker 2012 and mine was windows live 2011.

I would be very pleased if there is someone to have a solution to this problem.

( Plus: In the options of movie maker there is no sound section or filters section for codecs I don't know where to find those codecs.)

I had a problem with Windows Live Movie Maker (started sometime in the past 4 days) that made it so I could not upload videos to YouTube.  When I tried, it would say: Error: 0x80004005.  I then decided to re-install the program.  I deleted the program, the downloaded it off the Microsoft website.  The download client said that a few programs did not install properly, including Windows Live Movie Maker.  An installation details window came up and said: Windows essentials did not install properly.  I clicked the 'Try Again' option, but the same thing happened.  What should I do to fix Windows Live Movie Maker?

I wanted to slow down movie footage, but the version of windows live movie maker I had did not have that option, in spite of the fact that the super old 2.6 version did. However, I was told by this website that if I updated my current version, I would be able to slow down and speed up video. So I checked my computers specs, all of which met the minimum requirements, and installed a new version off of the microsoft website. However, upon trying to use the new version, I was prompted with an error that said;

"Sorry, Movie Maker can't start. Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements before trying to start Movie Maker again, and then try to update the driver of your video card is Movie Maker still doesn't start.

It then prompts me to this page;

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows-Live/movie-maker-system-requirements-ui

It also has a "learn more" button which simply opens up the site search and punches in "movie maker" for me.

This website told me I needed to install this, this website told me I had the minimum requirements. It's like asking someone to fix your car, hearing them say they can, only to have them break your headlights and windows.

I'd like to either know how to resolve this problem or how to get my old version back. The version I had wasn't 2.6; it came with my windows 7 computer. If I used recovery media I'd get it back, but that would be an enormous waste of time. As for trying to fix whatever problems I have now as a means of using the newest windows live movie maker, there was a link on the first page I posted about updating my graphics card;

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2741355/en-us

this page prompts me with the message;

"You cannot start Windows Movie Maker 2012 when a graphics card that supports DirectX 9 is installed on a Windows 7 computer."

I'm running DirectX 11, and before updating movie maker, I could edit video just fine. I am yet to find a way to fix this of regain the previous version I have.

Also, it would be really nice if your website could read it's own forum codes. I posted this and got a lot of < br/ >'s all over the place. To boot, when you highlight text and press the backspace key to delete it, it also deletes the first character before that text.

I have Windows 7, Home edition. My Windows Live Movie Maker was working fine until recently. The movie clips would take about 5 seconds to load into movie maker and then it would skip (be choppy) during playback of those clips. To rectify this I searched the web where suggestions to reload Movie Make seemed logical. So I went to Microsoft Website (windows.microsoft.com/en-nz/windows-live/movie-maker#t1=overview) and downloaded Movie Maker from the Essentials package.

However, there is now no Movie Maker (nor Photo Gallery) on my PC anymore (the old one was automatically deleted). Where there used to a film role icon for Movie Maker there is now a blank page icon in its place. I have restarted the PC several times. I tried downloading again, but the download options tell me that it is already loaded - but it hasn't.

How do I get Movie Maker back please?

Why does movie maker get to 43% and then stop working. I saved 5 movies just prior to this successfully and now it wont do anymore. I tried some of the fixes posted here but failed. I'm running version 2012 build 16.4.3528.0331. The movies all average about 7 minutes each. The files I'm using are .jpg mp3 mp4 and effects from movie maker. Nothing out of the ordinary. I did notice in the control panel/programs and features/uninstall that there is a Windows essentials media codec pack 3.6 that was installed in 12/6/2011 but I ran the repair option on the version 'm running right now (version 2012 build 16.4.3528.0331) and it says repair was successful. Please help me.

I have created a movie with video and photos, done all of the transitions etc (10 hours worth of time!) and then added songs.  None of the songs will play.  They are mp3 files.  The volume is up all the way for the songs.  It will play sound from the videos in between songs.  Just to test it, I made a new windows live movie maker project, added some of the videos and photos and the same songs as my original project, and the songs play! I have tried to take off a song and re-add it to the original project and it still won't play.  I didn't do any of the transitions for the new test project.  Is there some sort of control - other than the music volume button - that would affect the song sound I may have inadvertently hit? I have re-booted my computer.  I appreciate any help.  I don't think it is a problem with the program since it will work fine when I start a new project, and it always has worked in the past.  There is just something I must have done to mute the songs, NOT the video sound, on my project.  Thanks!
