I have my hard-drive from my now dead Widows 7 PC (NTFS); On it will be the contacts from the Windows Live mail; We have successfully attached this working hard drive to another working Windows 7 machine and wish to get the contact data (Perhaps emails too) into a clean Windows Mail live profile, on another machine; We do have access to all the files (Including App Data folders) in the old User profile of the drive, but I need to know what files/path to use to transfer the old contact data into the the fresh Live mail profile on the other machine (Also windows 7); please provide me with further information/help on where the data is and how I transfer it over?

It looks like before long I will (under sufferance) have to transfer my emails use to the windows 8.1 email app and I guess the online Outlook.com contacts (People) list; so I assume I have to restore my Contacts data to Windows7 Live Mail first and that I will not be able to import my contacts directly into the (online) outlook/people.live.com web-based list? from the existing hard drive data; I.e. there is no MS utility to transfer the data for me?

Thanks in advance;

Lance.

When I start "Windows Mail" or Windows live messenger" this error comes

"The program can't start because d3dx10_41.dll is missing  from your computer.

Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

What should I do next to correct this?

Original title: Outlook.com

Although it may be unrelated, when I logged on this AM, I had IE 9's privacy statement. When I opened Windows Mail, missing from it for the first time ever was, on the far left of the screen, the designations for what I was viewing, i.e., "Inbox," "Drafts," "Sent," etc. I want them back and can't find the directions to do that. I'm not sure this question doesn't belong in Outlook.com, which I was surprised to see it as a category, rather than Windows Mail. From outlook.com, I copied the following: "You can connect Windows Mail for Windows Vista to your e-mail account using POP3 or IMAP4 connectivity." I have POP3. Does anyone know what's happened and how to get my list of message categories to show on my screen again? Thank you.

I had been using Windows Live Mail 2011 for many years. It was part of a package, I think, called Windows Essentials (included Family Safety, Writer, etc.) Last month I had to reset my pc to factory settings.  Now, I cannot find Windows Live Mail 2011. In fact, I am seeing information that is saying Microsoft is no longer allowing its use. Of course I have the current Outlook.com, and I am aware that it can now accept multiple email programs (as I had with Mail 2011).  Can I have the additional Mail program or Live Mail with Windows Vista now? Where do I download it or do I just need to set Windows Mail as the default program on Vista now? Will everything from Mail Live 2011 integrate/transfer to a current Mail program? I really want that same look and format as Windows Mail 2011.

We needed a new computer and had the Geek Squad convert our old data to the new laptop. We end up with the same data on multiple mails with different subject in the same folder. It appears to happen when we drag an email to another specific folder and picks up the data from the folder when moved and not from the original email.

Is there an issue between Windows Mail (vista) and Windows Live mail 2013 and how do you recommend it be corrected.

I have a problem with the sent items folder having gone missing. Sadly I use it quite a bit, but can't recover it. I've tried to scour the help sites and came across this. I believe I'm on windows mail, but I don't have any folders marked IMAP to click on to even begin this process. Please help

Windows Mail

  1. Click IMAP Folders.
  2. In the Show/Hide IMAP Folders dialog box, select a folder, and then do one of the following:
    1. To view the folder and download its contents, click Show.
    2. To hide the folder and prevent its contents from downloading, click Hide.
  3. New folders can now be accessed from the Folders list on the left side.
Windows Live Mail In order for IMAP to work correctly with Windows Live Mail, the settings are by default set to not assign mail folders correctly. You will need to create path for the folders under the IMAP tab on Account Properties. Be sure that the boxes for "Check new messages in all folders"and "Store special folders on IMAP server" are checked. The path for these folders are :
  1. Inbox: Inbox
  2. Drafts: Drafts
  3. Junk: Junk
  4. Deleted Items: Trash
  5. Sent Items: Sent
If the paths are set up accordingly, the other alternative so that Windows Live Mail can refresh the windows is to delete the mail account within Windows Live Mail (The removal of the email account will not affect your emails on the server.) and recreate the email account from scratch.

From reading the posts regarding the subject upgrade, I realize that the upgrade can be made without much difficulty. My question is:  Will the emails in Windows Mail Live 11 be lost in the transition to Windows Live Mail 12 ( making it necessary to start anew in Windows Mail 12), or will they transfer seamlessly into Windows Live Mail 12 with the same configuration?  I would appreciate any input to resolve the issue.  Thank you.

From previous questions the answers provided request the email address impacted via a private message as well as a back end fix.

I have tried several times to removal my email account from Windows Mail and then add it back, this does not solve the problem.  I am still able to send/receive email from outlook.com as well as my iphone.

Can you please help?
