Not sure what the problem is (naturally)
I have just started using Movie Maker to edit and then save recorded TV and radio to remove adverts, announcements, etc.
The first time I opened a file to edit, Movie Maker analysed it for a minute or two and then showed the full 35 minute programme recording. I edited front and back and then saved the audio (it was a radio programme recorded through Windows Media Center) to mp3 and it seems to have saved it perfectly.
I then began a new project and selected the next programme to edit, and Movie Maker simply opened a file of 7 seconds length with no audio or video attached. Even if I open the original file that opened first time, I still get the same 7 second file. The software doesn't go through the analysing process that it did on the first edit.
I am at a loss, and would greatly appreciate some assistance to sort this problem out.

I created a 25 MB recording using Lync and the resulting file plays properly within Lync Recordig Manager and Windows Media Center. I can even open it with Explorer.
But as soon as I try to open it with Movie Maker, I get an error saying that the Move Maker Transcoder has stopped working. Digging further results in this error code being displayed: OxC946002C.
Other files I've created before and after this particular one open properly in MovieMaker. Any ideas on what could be causing the problem? I need to turn this file into an MP4 for a presentation for my bosses, so I am starting to panic.
Thanks in advance for your help.
So, Microsoft was offerring Winder 8 Pro for extremely low prices at launch. Another bonus was that you could sign-up for a free install of Windows Media Center. I have a TB tuner card in one of my slots with two ports so I can watch TV or record shows onto my PC just like a DVR and it worked perfectly. However, recently, my c:\ died and I had to buy a new one and I got a new copy of Win 8 Pro. I was hoping that my Microsoft account name would allow me to re-download Media Center but it looks like I'll have to buy it now.
Is that the way it is or am I missing something that could restore my installation of MWC?
The recorded file plays correctly in Windows Media Player, but not in Movie Maker.
I have tried the the codec fixer, didn't find any problems.
