I'm making an explanatory tutorial - and I'd like to add blocks of explanation text that looks like someone is writing the text instead of the text itself just appearing. I'm using Windows Movie Maker.

Is there a way to do this - or a plugin that one can install that allows this?

I'm considering trying it in PowerPoint and then using encoder to screen capture the PowerPoint Show and then adding this video clip to Movie Maker.

But I thought there maybe a way to do this with just using the images and adding the text effect in Movie Maker.

Thanks in advance.

I’m unhappy with the video quality produced by Windows Movie Maker 2012.  Two problems:

First, the MP4/H.264 files encoded by Movie Maker use the Baseline Profile with only 1 reference frame and the quality seems to max out at around 12 Mbps with no improvement at higher bitrates.  My source file is 1280x720, 29.97 FPS at 43.6 Mbps and has no noticeable blocking artifacts at all.  Encodings produced by movie maker even at higher bitrates greater than 50 Mbps have severe compression artifacts that shouldn’t be present at such high bitrates.  For this reason, I wish there was an option to encode AVI files using a lossless codec like HuffyYUV or Lagarith, then I could use HandBrake to encode the final MP4/H.264 files with my own preferred encoder settings for optimal results.

Second, the videos produced have moments of choppiness.  In the preview window the video is smooth the entire time, but on playback there are several moments in a 3 minute video where the video becomes choppy for a few seconds.  I was able to resolve some of these moments by splitting the 3 minute video into several segments at points before the problem occurs, but I still feel this might be another problem with the encoder.

Overall, I’m really impressed with the design and features of Windows Movie Maker 2012 and I’m happy that MP4/H264 is supported as the default encoding format, but I’m really disappointed with the H264 encoder quality.  I know Microsoft can do better.

I get this error on WMM a lot. I see other people getting it also. But the Error message doesnt give correct feedback.

I get this error when my RAM gets over 90% full. Other applications can still read the files.

Can WMM have better error feedback?

I had to go to Task Monitor and watch the processes and graphs to work out the real source of the error.

Also it would be good if WMM could manage RAM runout by using HDD cache and being patient.

Ive only got 4gb RAM, so In order to make my movies, i have to create pieces about 1o seconds long out of images (im doing timelapse), then take the pieces of the movie and put them into a single project to save them into one movie.

WMM can handle long videos if the pieces are pre-processed video, but it totally cant handle images.

it really blows out my editing time, and means i have to interact with my computer a number of times to make one movie, that should only need one interaction at the start.

Hi,

I would appreciate any feedback or assistance with the following. I had made a few WMM movies that were working perfectly for 2-3 weeks, all of a sudden when I play them now, they glitch, or lag or freeze when playing them on any playback program ( Windows Media Player, Itunes, Quicktime etc.).

I tried re-publishing the movie and again, it just glitches, lags or freezes when playing the movies. I thought maybe it was a computer issue, although when I play other videos or movies - no issues.

Thanks for any feedback on this!

Hi

I am on Windows 7 trying to put a video together. When I go to Save Movie - then YouTube format, it doesn't save it, there are 8 clips and a music loop on there but it is only 44 seconds and it says there is not enough space. There is plenty of space on my hard drive and under the video area.

Please let me know what i can do to fix this - I am trying to put up a mothers day video!!! thanks

I am trying to load clips in movie maker from a gopro.  The clips will play in windows media player but the bigger clips will not make it past the preparing step in windows movie maker.  It shows that the file is corrupt and needs to be removed.  Is there a way to edit or shrink the video prior to using movie maker?  gopro software had the same issue.  If the files will play in windows media player why wont they work in editing software?

Thanks

Brian

When I try to insert a .wma file, it says that this is an unsupported format. I am trying to edit an audio file, WITHOUT any pictures or videos. The older version, (Windows Movie Maker) allowed this for years without any issues, but I'm not able to do the same with Windows Live Movie Maker. Am I supposed to do something differently or does this newer version not allow audio editing? If it doesn't, please suggest some other programs that do, so I can download and use one for the same purpose.

Hi,

As I was importing videos into my Movie Maker, I clicked "stop" while it was "preparing" the video to be used in the movie. Now every video I import has bad resolution and distorted images. How do I get Movie maker to start "preparing" the videos again?

Thank you!

Whenever I am working on a project I no longer use movie maker because a message pops up saying windows movie maker has stopped working-a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you when a solution is available. This happens consistently and is really infuriating. Please help.
